Taking the thumb safety off on the 1911 is just part of putting your hand on the grip. If you have to think about it you aren’t ready to be carrying it. Idiot proof guns are for...

My point was .... there are no idiot proof guns.
“Taking the thumb safety off on the 1911 is just part of putting your hand on the grip.”
You take the safety off as soon as you grip the gun?
I think our definitions of the word skill differ.
Love my XD pistols.

I agree with you 100%...I have two of them and never a jam or misfire with basic breakdowns and cleaning after range use.
Like Apple fans that claim Apple invented everything so do the Glock fans.
Not to mention the many striker fired pistols that were not polymer. I had a Jennings J-22 back around 85 that was striker fired.
You are hedging.
Nope, obviously I leave the safety on if I’m removing the gun to put it away or to work on it, but if it’s coming out of the holster in practice or for real the safety comes off before it’s finished moving that first inch.
Guns are bad ..... I saw it on TV.
Any law enforcement person I speak with always says the same thing: “if you are in law enforcement, you HAVE to learn to love the Glock.” Why? Because you can boil it, bake it, fry it, etc and it will fire. Run a trillion rounds through and it will fire.
But then the big “but” always follows. But it is an awkward grip angle and it feels like you have to shoot down hill. Also, it is ugly as sin.
I get Glock’s, they are cheap and reliable and utilitarian. Just me but I don’t like the damn things and I have tried to. Amongst my handguns I have a CZ a VP9 and recently a Sig Legion 226 that all have trigger reset that I would put up against the tupper wear gun. As someone said, we have many excellent choices these days.
The Glock is a great gun but it lives off its novelty and legend. That does not make it sooooooooo superior to the plethora of great firearms available today.
IIRC, Lt. Gorman had one in “Aliens”.
I’m a HUGE Glock fan and I’ll agree with that statement.
Gaston Glock’s GENIUS was putting it all together in a package that was FINALLY accepted by the masses.
Polymer frame
Striker fired
Simplicity
Even the light rail. HK was first (again), but the USP rail SUCKED and Glock came out with a rail that worked and worked across other manufacturers platforms.
Other manufacturers are catching up quickly and I almost bought a VP9 back when they were only $550. But, I’ve got six Glocks and I’m fairly wedded to the platform.
Correct.

Another cool fact to add to the gushing and glowing: almost every gun shop has a special little Glock hole in the floor!
Yup, some rookies can’t handle real handguns.
