Trump seen likely to tap Fil-Am lawyer to be next SolGen (Kellyanne's husband)

George Conway, a Filipino American corporate lawyer and husband to US President-elect Donald Trump’s senior adviser Kellyanne Conway, is being eyed as the next solicitor general of America.

Bloomberg and CNN both reported that Conway is on the shortlist of candidates being considered for the third-highest post in the US Justice Department.

If Trump appoints Conway to the post, the corporate lawyer will become the first Asian-American solicitor general.

While Conway has yet to comment on the matter, CNN reported that he is likely accept the position once Trump himself taps him to be the US government’s top appellate lawyer.

Some reports also state that Trump’s attorney general-designate, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, already had discussions with Conway.

For 28 years, Conway has been a partner at one of the leading corporate law firms in New York, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. He currently works at the firm’s litigation department.

He attended college in Harvard, and graduated from Yale Law School in 1987. Conway has represented high-profile clients like the National Football League and tobacco giant Philip Morris, throughout his career.

The Fil-Am lawyer also played a role in the impeachment of former US president Bill Clinton’s in 1998. He was part of the legal team of Paula Jones, who filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against former US President Bill Clinton.

I've known and worked with a lot of Filipino's over the years that I've lived in Asia. They appear to fall into two groups;
#1 The salt of the Earth
#2 The scum of the Earth

I would assume that this guy is part of the first group.

Might be a great guy, however, as with Ivanka & her husband, this is nepotism. Trump team is floating a trial balloon to measure public reaction.

I thought we were getting away from the racial/ethnic bean counting thing. Of course, “first Fil-Am whatever” sounds more original than “twenty-seven thousandth New York lawyer whatever.” Why, it might almost give the impression that there’s something different, rather than oh-so-same, about Mr. Conway’s prospective appointment.

I thought the same thing then looked at the article. It’s from the Manila Bulletin, so they are touting someone of their heritage. I’ll give them a pass.

Might be a great guy, however, as with Ivanka & her husband, this is nepotism.

As a partner in Wachtell, Lipton, he makes many orders of magnitude more money than the Solicitor General of the US makes. If he is offered and takes the job it will not be because of the money. Also you don't make partner in that firm unless you are a very good attorney. This would be much more of a merit appointment rather than Nepotism.

In other news, he’s a good lawyer. This needs a tweet. It would have been fun to see this on tv and discover he’s Asian. Liberals are so massively racist.

Agree he would take a big pay cut, although as an engineer, I know it wouldn’t be “many orders of magnitude” less (maybe one order of magnitude). Don’t think merit is a consideration when determining if nepotism obtains. He would be #3 at the DOJ, and his wife, as counselor to the POTUS, would be in a position of supervision & influence over him.

It’s a Manila newspaper. It’s probably a big deal to them and their readers. Filipinos don’t get appointed to high-level US government jobs every day.

Conway’s wife, Kellyanne, is counselor to DJT, and she will be in a position to influence the DOJ, in which he’s proposed for the #3 position. Classic definition of nepotism: People in positions of power giving jobs to relatives or friends. Why we’ve flared up on this forum because Sen. Yertle’s wife, Elaine Chao, has been nominated by DJT to be Secretary of Transportation. I include Ivanka & her husband, Jared Kushner, in the mix. Not good.
