I was misdiagnosed for 8 years by a string of white and Asian doctors. I am white.
I’m sure it was a racial thing. /s
I guess I should have tried a black female doctor.
Doctors tried to tell my husband that his Neuropathy must be from diabetes. When his sugar numbers refused to move out of the normal range they switched to "pre-diabetes". Finally found a doctor who specialized in Neurologist. She looked at his chart and snorted, "nonsense, there is no way that your problems are caused by diabetes. You don't have it." When we asked about "pre-diabetes" she said that either you had it or you didn't and he didn't.
When we asked her what was causing the problem she answered frankly that she didn't know but she would try to find out.
You don't like hearing your doctor say she does not know but it was better then the doctors that kept trying to shove him into a box where he didn't belong.
My doc is black and female short and fluffy. I love her.
She is making assumptions she got inferior care because she’s black. How does she know it wasn’t because of her obesity? Maybe she saw a black, obese doctor.
So the white doctors were obesist, not racist. But thinking that is not as much fun I guess.
It is not unwise to have a doctor who is similar to yourself, especially one who is just a few years older. They have in recent memory personally tackled or investigated most of the issues that you are likely to start facing.
She needs a black shrink.
I wonder to what degree the poor care they are complaining of is due to the poor quality doctors who take Medicaid patients. The disproportionate number of white doctors in that category vs disproportionate black patients makes it seem racially motivated ... but they’ve never been able to pay for a quality doctor, black or white, in the US, hence the “great care by black doctors in home nation where I can afford it”.
The problem is the poor quality of providers in socialized medicine, not evil white doctors abusing poor black patients.
“Ok then, you have black diabetes.”
Go to Rubana Nao, a village nearby where Obama was born in Kenya. Onadiba Bunagwa is the village witch doctor. I'm sure he'll glady, even enthusiastically rattle his dried gourd seeds over you with some really shrewd incantations and serious gyrations and hopping about...
...for a fee, of course.
LMAO!!!
You are not the lone ranger. Every physician I ask more than two superficial questions tells me not to heal nervous. It doesn’t occur to them you might be intelligent. Men of course who feel their ego is being assaulted. Try a woman.
Painfully ridiculous, trying to blame all problems/issues on racism.
Many white patients have issues with their white doctors too.
So the justification for obesity is “Big Mama invited me to Sunday dinner” and it is a microagression to suggest a change be made.
Yet another reason medical care should hurt a person’s wallet - if you are not investing in yourself you end up living a deteriorating lifestyle waiting for a magic pill.
there is truth to this article. I have two adopted black daughters who had the same constellations of symptoms. They had PCOS but did not exhibit the primary physical symptom known to white doctors THEY DIDNT GROW FACIAL HAIR.
No physician we saw ever thought about the fact that many blacks don’t grow facial hair. And if there are not many follicles on the face there would be no hair.
the girls were misdiagnosed for years.
I just knew it ...
Perhaps she would prefer checking a chicken’s guts to see if there is anything wrong with her. In her case they’d need a fat chicken to be more accurate.
The medical profession does put people into disease boxes. A friend of mine had a chronic cough and they told her it was caused by her intake of second hand smoke. Nothing could be done.
She was visiting us over the holidays and it sounded and acted like and allergy to me. I gave her some Claritin and her cough stopped after three days.
