U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's "clear warning" to North Korea shows he is aware of the urgency of the threat posed by North Korea's nuclear program and will not waver from a policy of sanctions against the isolated country, South Korea said on Tuesday.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said on Sunday his nuclear-capable country was close to test-launching an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), raising the prospect of putting parts of the United States in range.

Trump dismissed the claim, saying on Twitter: "It won't happen."

South Korea's Foreign Ministry said Trump's comment, his first mention of the North Korean nuclear issue since the U.S. election in November, could be interpreted as a "clear warning" to the North.

"Because of our active outreach, President-elect Trump and U.S. officials are clearly aware of the gravity and urgency of the North Korean nuclear threat," ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck said at a briefing....

Apparently, you didn't read his previous tweets or the Feb GOP debate when the question was raised.

Trump will use economic leverage on China to rein in NK.

Lots of things he could do—send in seals to blow up the launch site. Shoot down the rocket with an ageius system. launch a non-nuke drone strike. They could have an accident!

They don’t listen to China like they used to. That’s just the truth.

Shooting their ships out of the water would starve the economy.

Militarily, we could use surgical strikes to take out the fast breeder reactors given to them by Clinton, which is the source of their fissile material. I think Trump is referring to diplomatic and economic means, however.

Diplomacy and sanctions won’t work. They haven’t so far.

That isn’t going to work. They’ve been trying that for 30 years.

We’re still at war with the Norks ,, we’ve only has a cease fire for the last 50+ years... and China now knows that we have a leader that will look out for our interests and they don’t want NK to do anything stupid that will restart a hot war... we have a good chance here to get something positive accomplished.

I’d think China will just march in and take it.. make it a province of theirs. The population lives on grass , bark , corpses and meth ... if China stages a coup and brings in a few trainloads of tractors and scrap food even they wouldn’t eat they win.

We don’t have the money or resources to go to war. NK has the largest army in the world.

Time to put them to good use...

I think it ends with nukes... Whether Trump uses them first or we wait until we or our allies are attacked. And if we wait, then it will probably be a hydrogen bomb.

Give South Korea the green light to develop their own nuclear weapons program. The Chinese will do just about anything to prevent that, including shutting down NK’s program.

The South Koreans are already able to make their own weapons though. They’ve decided it’s not a good idea. I don’t think giving them a green light will change that.

"What can he do? Short of nuking them that is?"

~~~~~~
Trump should station one of our Arleigh Burke class destroyers off their coast, in international waters and use its missiles to intercept their ICBM tests as soon as they leave Nork airspace.
If they make noises threatening SK in retaliation, he should quietly inform them that any such action would be terminated by our sinking our own USS Pueblo -- where it is moored -- with it as the ground zero for our largest thermonuclear device.
And, then say to fatboy Kim, "No matter how deeply you shelter, your eventual personal fate will be that of Saddam Hussein."
