I think it goes back further than that, at least as far as Watergate. That whole incident was a nothing-burger until Ben Bradlee and Katherine Graham of the Washington Post decided it would be the scaffold on which they could hang the hated Richard Nixon. By digging and digging into what should have been a minor scandal, they managed to escalate it to the point that for the first time in American history, a sitting president resigned.

The power, the exhilaration, the arrogance that arose from that feat inspired the next generations of "journalists," who set out to duplicate the "heroics" of Woodward and Bernstein. All that remained was to point them at conservative targets and pull the trigger.

That's how we got where we are today: a bunch of copycat crusaders determined to make their careers out of one-upping each other on their liberal extremism.

Ah, that’s their bias ... overblowing Republican misdeeds ... which goes deep and early but even then they still managed to somewhat care about Democrat misdeeds. And that was what I was referring to.

Now a days, when it comes to Democrats, the wagons circle themselves.
