<< Actually, this is us, folks, all Freepers and like minded folk on websites all over the Internet. We were the backbone of Trump’s campaign, the glue that kept the Trump supporters together and hanging tough right up until Trump’s win. We all deserve a collective pat on the back because WE WON! >>

I agree with you. The constant sharing of information was crucial to our staying aware, alert, and encouraged. At last night’s NYE party, we deplorables enjoyed talking about how things moved from the beginning til now. Our success all hinged on our being able to bypass the media that hates us.

So it was quite a year. Let’s hope that this one is better.

I stopped reading there.

Up to that point, the article did make some valid points. That conservative viewpoints have been effectively shut down by the liberal gatekeepers of the mainstream media so that we had no choice but to "go underground." That social media helped make the Trump phenomenon possible.

I have a good personal example of this:

On August 13, Donald Trump made a surprise visit to Fairfield, CT to do a rally. This is literally in my backyard, the rally site was just a few miles from my house. However this rally got ZERO mention in the local media here. I only found out about the rally through social media. When my wife and I showed up to the event, there were literally thousands of fellow Connecticans lined up for hours outdoors in searing heat to see Trump. All of them were heavily connected to social media. As we stood in line, everybody around me were snap-chatting, Twittering and facebooking. All of them showed up because of social media because none of the local papers or TV news stations advertised that he was coming.

<< Thank God, there were a lot of others who engaged people who were not Trump supporters and who were in many cases not conservatives to let them know the positive things Trump wanted to do and to correct their misconceptions about him, as well as to spread the word about Hillary that the media was reluctant to report. >>

Agree. Thank God for twitter, so we could pull clever memes and bring them here to FR; thank God for YouTube for clips to share; for internet radio; for facebook where we could share and influence and encourage our undecided and waffling conservative friends.

Everyone, in today’s fight should have at a minimum:

1. A Free Republic account for community
2. A facebook account for getting and sharing information
3. A twitter account to follow trusted sources
4. An understanding of YouTube to follow sources like RSBN

Since twitter is doing poorly, someone suggested that one of the Trump family members purchase and run it. That would be awesome! We deplorables must stay engaged. No time for letting up.

Me, too. As it turns out, how important is it that Scott Walker was there to help Trump win Wisconsin. Divine intervention as Franklin Graham would say.

There are repeated calls here on FR to never use Twitter and Facebook etc.

If Trump supporters had listened to these people who clearly have no idea what is going on Hillary would be measuring the Oval office right now for new drapes.

Agree 100% on that. And many of anti social media crowd here seem proud of it. They don't seem to realize that Free Republic is also part of social media so it's odd that many of us try to keep Free Republic such a "closed" system. I still see many newbies run out of here on a rail because they don't grasp the nuances and protocols from Day one. Even long timers are driven away if they happen to fall on the wrong side of our rapidly evolving community. Good example is Donald Trump. Prior to June 2015, you would have been laughed off this board for seriously proposing Donald Trump as president. Just months later, people taking an anti-Trump position were made to feel very unwelcome here. I was in the Trump camp from the beginning but it was astonishing to see how rapidly this community changed and how quickly many of our long time contributors disappeared for good.

It's especially rough for newbies here. But once you are established and you develop the necessary thick skin, FR can be pretty addictive.

There is a similar group to us out on Reddit but apparently much larger. There are currently over 300,000 people subscribed on a subreddit called The_Donald and I believe it is now the biggest sub on the entire site. At any given moment, nearly 10,000 people are actively posting to it.

It seems to be a much younger crowd over there and profanity is tolerated so may not be everybody here's cup of tea. Also it's hard to keep up with the pace. Whatever you post there usually gets quickly pushed down into the weeds as there can be up to a hundred new posts every minute during peak times. But sometimes it catches fire. One night I posted a meme photo there not thinking much of it and then I woke up to find that nearly 4,000 people had "upvoted" it overnight. Over there you have to be quick and snappy to get noticed.

While the Reddit site is much larger and faster paced, I prefer the richer and slower paced content here at FR. But those Reddit kids have a lot of energy and they give me hope that our younger generations are not totally lost. It also speaks to the social media intensity that drove the Trump campaign.

Donald Trump definitely picked the right year to run, I tell you that.

Bingo

from the article: what would the comparable leftwing ecosystem be like?

The author is blind to the answer. The AP-REUTERS-NYT-WAPO-GANNETT-ABC-NBC-CBS-CNN-MSNBC-NPR-PBS-Medill School of Journalism-etc is the comparable ecosystem. Exactly the same sociogram could be drawn of the old school ecosystem.

What we witness is proof of capitalist economics. The establishment media was a cartel that would not let anyone in who was not invited. So the MARKET invented ways to bypass the cartel and create competition.

Someone needs to use this to educate people on economics.

Help please. I have hunted and have yet to find a facebook for dummies site that explains how to use it in terms the chat room generation can understand.

I have never, intentionally originated anything on facebook as I know my limitations. But, apparently, there are things on facebook that appear to be from me and original as they did not originate from any other site. How did they get there?

I have written things in non-facebook sites that appear on facebook. Some of them I clicked a button that said “post to facebook also”. But on many of them I explicitly did not click that button. Yet it appears on facebook anyway. And in many cases there is no obvious facebook button on the non-facebook site. Yet it appears on facebook.

This is frustrating. I am often responding to an article or post on the original site. When the post appears on facebook it lacks that context and can thus be mis-understood. That is especially true when I use figures of speech like sarcasm that seem wacko out of context.

When I go to facebook directly, a series of “posts” pops up. Mulesoft is always the 2d post. This is interesting as my yahoo email and my work email each average over 50 IT related vendors per day. Yet Mulesoft never appears on them, just on facebook. Mulesoft does not appear near the top on other people’s facebook. So why Mulesoft?

When I go on facebook directly, 90% of the posts are Christian and JudeoChristian prayers, Bible verses, etc. 40% of my internet activity is IT. 40% is politics. A little bit is humor, sports, and miscellaneous. Very little is religious. I’ll post religious (brothers keeper) to FR. But I don’t post religious to yahoo, WAPO, Huffinton, etal.

Others who post religious much more than I do, do not receive many religious posts from others.

Most of my posts (70%?) are from the same 6 or 7 people I have never heard of outside their facebook posts. They post many times per day.

I have friends who I know post politics on facebook. But their posts never reach me. I have never, ever seen a pro-Trump or pro-Cruz post on facebook. I’ve scrolled through literally hundreds of posts in a sitting.

So where can I get educated on facebook? I don’t understand it.

I’m not sure I’m following you exactly but it sounds like you have a lot of facebook-generated sponsored posts in your fb newsfeed. Is there a family member or friend who can sit down at your side and help clean things up? I’ve done that with my mother so she can see photos family members post.

Exactly. Was gonna do that and decided, why help out. They are shell shocked right now. No clue what happened. They had everything. They deployed everything. They exposed everything. And still, they lost. They got trumped. And in four years, they will be annihilated.

The problem with Twitter right now is its character limitation. No need for that in an era where people are streaming movies.

The press is the Public Relations arm of the Democrat Party.

It's why they're not trusted.

In 2017 the MSM will attempt to pretend they're not as biased and hateful toward traditional Americans as they really are - - an effort that will fail. Because it's a lie.

Trumpers don't trust the MSM. Conservatives either. Young people who use computers and saw the scams used against Bernie don't trust them either.

Who does that leave?

It leaves corrupt white elites who want to be played for fools — it's in their best interest. And minorities, illegals with limited English reading skills and the criminal class. In short, if the MSM doesn't go through a reformation they will be sidelined.

A twitter account is just one arrow in the quiver or just one source of information. It’s profane and a LOT of fake news so it’s important to be aware and look for those trusted sources, like @seanspicer. Keep the movie resource, of course, if you’d like. Twitter does have character limitations but there are lots of videos of live events and of course, the ubiquitous memes that support our guy and our principles and tear the others to shreds.

re:sponsored posts

The prayers, Bible verses and religious posts don’t seem to be in anyway sponsored. They don’t link to anything outside that post. They all seem to be from isolated individuals.

The non-religious posts are all over the map on subject. They are split between IL specific and national. I left IL 4 years ago. 4 years in GA. Not a single GA specific post. Not on the rising Falcons. Not on politics. Not on anything GA specific.

Mulesoft is the only commercial post that appears constantly.

I am not close to anyone who could teach me. Cheat sheets is what I’m used to since switching careers to IT in my 40s in 1983. So ideally I’d like to get (or build) a cheat sheet that explains cause and effect of why things appear on facebook.

The truth really hurts these people of the left. They are left with no option but to call truth “fake news” without the ability to cite a single concrete instance to support their thesis.

I too was a Cruz supporter based on his intellect and fondation in the Founding Fathers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Except that Article II Section 1 clause 5 of the Constitution the founders bequeathed to us excludes him from being President.
None of the founders would have thought a person born in Canada to a Cuban father was a natural born citizen of the US.
Born here of citizen parents
No possibility of being anything else makes one NATURALLY a US citizen.
I wanted Walker as well, but soured on him when he started talking amnesty. I still think he’s a good guy but I don’t think he understands the bad illegal immigration is for the country.
