Pretty obvious Trump was trying to be nice and run out the clock wich would be fine if you working with normal adults. I believe that new employees for their first year are probationary i.e. they can be let go without much blow back. IMO, Trump should terminate any career employee above the middle management ranks hired within the last 180 days.
