Columbus-based Lindal Manufacturing Inc. is planning to expand operations in Bartholomew County. The company will invest more than $17 million to build and equip a 100,000 square-foot facility in a move it says will retain 65 jobs and add 30 jobs over the next three years.
The Republic reports the Columbus City Council has approved 10-year tax abatements for the construction of the facility and the purchase of the new equipment. Lindal North America Managing Director Jerry Miller tells the publication the company plans to break ground in the spring with construction expected to take nine months to complete.
The jobs created as a result of the investment are expected to pay around $22 per hour. In the resolution approving the tax abatements, the council said the project "represents a major capital investment and complements the initiatives of the City of Columbus for economic development."
The Columbus facility, which opened in 2003, is Lindal's only operation in the United States. The company manufactures aerosol valves and moldings and also includes warehouse and office space.
I wonder if anyone has a list of the companies so far that are coming “back”? It seems it’s growing daily.
I live in Columbus, IN. Those $22 an hour jobs will be technical jobs. They are not manufacturing jobs. We typically have skilled entry level jobs at $11 an hour, but we have some companies offering up to $16 an hour starting pay. That is assuming that you can show up, pass a drug test, be on time for 6 months, and be a team player.
We have tons of jobs here that cannot be filled.
“We typically have skilled entry level jobs at $11 an hour,”
Correction: “skilled” should be “ unskilled”
God what I would give for a $16/hr job.
I’m making $10/hr running a rip saw. Should be making $15.
Should be making $15.
Hang tight my FRiend, Trump is coming in 24 days.
Typos mean things! :0
Once the (non-union) prevailing wage starts hovering aroung 18/hr, reliably, people start thinking about the boats they haven’t been able to buy for 8 years and maybe having a kid.
Really, the term ‘trickle-down’ doesn’t describe it, it’s ‘trickle-OUT’, every new employer enriches its area in circles of prosperity that eventually overlap, and then we’re back to Normal.
The fact that the left even invented ‘the new normal’ was proof that they planned the gutting of the middle class, words like FUN-employment, trying to normalize it.
We have a severe shortage of workers where I live.
Sorry for the typo....
Aw, no, just ribbin’ ya :)
Winning again!
key words: show up, pass a drug test, and be a team player.
How many people shouting for more jobs can do all three?
The Millennials are going to universities to get brainwashed in liberal degrees only to work at McDonald's when they graduate. Nobody wants to work in a recycling plant, weld, or do something constructive.
Columbus is MIKE Pence home town. Many big successful factories there. They employ people from all surrounding counties.
Yes of course, but I wonder how many applicants for those jobs are willing to show up on time not just the first day but every day; are able to pass a drug test (in some parts of the country 50% of applicants fail those tests); and are able to work reasonably well with others day-in and day-out.
Interesting. I wasn’t familiar with Lindahl so looked at their website, where I saw an announcement about a strategic agreement with a Russian pharma company, and thought “Uh oh, the conspiracy theorists will be all over this!”.
Columbus IN is ahead of the curve with manufacturing compared with many areas but this is still good news.
Man! I made 12 bucks an hour in 1982 as a head sawyer in a very large hardwood sawmill. I talked to one who is working there now, he is making 12 bucks an hour. And to become a head sawyer is a job that requires a lot of experience..at least a good head sawyer.
VERY good money in 82. I got out of the Corps in 85, and in the WASH DC area!!!! I saw a job for $6 an hour and was drooling.
