We aren’t told anything about the mother of the homeowner’s children. We do know that the father has custody though, which says something.
So did she die? Run off with another guy (or woman) perhaps? Is she drugged out and in jail somewhere?
There is zero information given to assess anything other than a home invader picked a house with armed residents.
