Public University Professors Demand “Sanctuary Campus” to Shield Illegal Aliens
Judicial Watch ^ | December 6, 2016

But the Florida professors are blazing the trail as the first faculty members to officially call for campus-wide sanctuary in the aftermath of the presidential election. They work at Florida International University (FIU), a public institution with 54,000 students, more than half of them Hispanic. One of the professors, Asia Eaton, teaches psychology and women’s and gender studies and the other, Jason Ritchie, anthropology. Dozens of other university staff members also signed the document making the sanctuary demand. It starts off like this: “Like many people in South Florida, we were caught off guard by the election.” It continues to state that Trump’s victory “laid bare the pervasive racism and sexism that have limited the life chances of too many Americans for too long. As a nation, we cannot continue to sweep these problems under the rug.”

All majors with "studies" ( completely USELESS ones ) in the title should be closed down and dismantled.

Public colleges, who pull this crap, should be completely DEFUNDED by 1/21/17.

And all of these *cough* "profs" *cough*, let go.

No...just let the cops and immigration folks do their job. After a couple of pick-ups on campus, and crazy antics by the “kids” (to include the professors)....you will quietly notice that parents are jerking their kids out of the school and moving to less stressful places.

It’s called the “Kent State Effect”. It takes a few months but parents will decide that the university is focused on something that isn’t a priority with them. If this were a $3,000 a year cost item...then it wouldn’t matter. When some parent is told to cough up $20,000? They start to ask questions and expect a professionally run campus.

Can the University reduce the salary of these professors in order to help pay for all that ‘Sanctuary’?
I didn’t think so!

Metrosexuals in my college said that we needed a new world in which the only law is Love. Shows you the puerility of their minds.

Fine.
Go ahead.
But we are gonna have to build a wall around your campuses too.

Unrelated, but the same university- two veteran FIU professors were convicted of spying for Cuba’s communist government over nearly three decades. Carlos and Elsa Alvarez were convicted in a Miami federal court in 2007.

Maybe it isn’t really that much unrelated in the greater scheme of things.

I have no problem with sanctuary campus. Just put it in these professors in Cuba. That’ll be fine.

As preposterous as this may sound, the demand gets even crazier when the professors compare the college sanctuary movement to safe havens that shielded individuals and institutions that refused to comply with fugitive slave laws in the 1800s. They refer to it as a tradition in the U.S. of providing safe-haven to vulnerable populations.

Wow, it is amazing how ignorant college professors have become of some pretty basic historical facts.

It was traditional up until a few decades ago that immigrants had to have a sponsor in this country that guaranteed that the immigrant would not become a burden on the citizens of this country. The immigrant also had to pass a physical to guarantee that the immigrant was not bringing disease in to this country. The immigrant also had to have skills or knowledge that were needed or not otherwise in supply in this country. Having a relative already in this country was not necessarily a guarantee to getting a resident visa to this country.

And until just a few years ago getting caught in this country without documents was a guarantee of being detained and deported. Getting caught in this country without document repeatedly was a guarantee of being a unwilling guest of the United States.

These Leftist Ideologues that call themselves professor think that calling something a tradition will cement it in the minds of their students with an air of legitimacy. Well given that these professors have indoctrinated many of their students with Marxist ideology it is somewhat effective. However a real tradition should have more than a single decade of history to cement it in society.

We must be honest when dealing with something as important as equal justice under the law and taxpayer dollars. These illegal immigrants are not slaves. Let’s also be honest that the individuals and institutions that shielded fugitive slaves did so using their own money and not that of the taxpayers. If these professors want to keep these illegals in the country and send them to college let them do it on their own dime. Let them put their ideals to a real test.

Professors put up or shut up.

I can attest to the truth of this first hand.

In 1989 our family had to go through all of these things to enable the immigration of relatives from Scotland. The people we brought over were our first cousins and all of the requirements you mention were in play.

We were fortunate in that the father in that family did have a unique resume in a particular engineering discipline that was in demand and short supply at that time. Otherwise our good offices would have been of no avail.

Yeah, I search my morning papers, and the t.v. channels, in vain, looking for articles / reports about sexism and racism...

Whereas, in other countries...
