“But I’m confident that many will set aside their own personal bitterness, not because they’re personally satisfied by the words of the Prime Minister, but because they recognize how important this moment is for the United States.”

He didn't tell anyone to "GET OVER IT" - "George's" caps. I find nothing in this instance objectionable in Mr. Earnest's statement and believe Prime Minister Abe's gesture will probably be constructive.

The author might have pointed out that today Japan is a US ally in a great geopolitical struggle with China.

Yes that was the bloggers impression and not the words of the White House statement and therefore was not posted as news.

However, I like thousands of other military veterans will and, have already understood that is basically what was meant, considering the actions the occupant of the White House has taken against our military and veterans.

Yes he did say “get over it”

Look at the statement

But Earnest followed up by saying those veterans should **overcome**those feelings for the good of the country.

Overcome means “get over it” - now he probably wasn’t snide about it sure ... but he might as well have said
“these veterans should move on for the good of the country.”
Or
“These veterans should put aside their feelings of disagreement for their fallen compatriots for the good of the country.”

The meaning and the gist is still the same - “I understand how you feel but he’s coming and not apologizing so deal.”

All he had to say was “some veterans will disagree and they’re perfectly right and have justified reasons but we think having him speak in the efforts of unity is good in this time of differences in the pacific theater.”

Except obama doesn’t wanna say that because he loves the Chinese.
