In PA that’s almost an old deer. Trucks or cars would’ve had him in one more year.
No high-fence and all we maintain is pastures and water and here in TX public land is almost non existent. When somebody wants to just fill the freezer we have that available also since our culling program may include taking 200 to 300 does in some years, plus we have reduced prices for cull bucks. Getting a lease on private land is expensive and most won’t produce the mature bucks we have. We do it cheaper than a 1 section lease and they have a nice place to stay and plenty to eat and drink plus the can fish if they want to. We also have a large population of Aoudad sheep that hang around the mountains. A 30 inch ram will bring 5000 dollars and we have a waiting list for them,
Hollow hair and intact lungs. I can see it floating.
All Whitetail deer populations are not created equal. In the midwest, there are state owned lands where the herds have not been managed well. The deer have become so overpopulated and inbred that some of the whitetails aren’t much bigger than a Great Dane. This overpopulation has also led to increased disease in the herd.
In recent years, there have been more controlled hunts in these state owned lands which is helping.
Nice Buck!
You understand exactly what I’m posting about.
Just under 170 with the 2 6/8ths inches of deducts. About as close as I’ll ever get to a book buck here in West Texas.
