Have you ever noticed there are guys/gals out there who are good at hunting? And some just arent that good at it, being good is not about being lucky either. So here's what it boils down toand why some people wont ever become good hunters.
Only read the excerpt. I will throw this out, though:
Number 1 is a misnomer. Since hunting is a hobby - something you do for fun - lazyness doesn’t enter into it for me. I’ve seen people be lazy doing things the don’t like doing, but serious workaholics and detail oriented regarding things they DO like.
e.g. a guy can be a government worker that gets stoned on the job and never really accomplishes anything for his paycheck, yet is one of the best hunters out there because he puts his all into it.
We can be “lazy” about how we do some things, but that is different than being “lazy”. Usually people are lazy about a thing because the reward for diligence is not that important to them.
Meanwhile, there are those that attack everything they do with gusto in a, “whatever you put your hands to, do it as though you are doing it for the Lord” attitude. As I get older, I’ve stopped being involved with non-requisite activities where I get “lazy” about how I do them and focus on something that actually matters to me.
BTW, “laziness” can also be the mother of invention. :-)
I well know it infuriates much of the target psychographic here, having read and watched quite a bit of the content,
But I always felt what made me a “good” hunter is that:
I don’t sit in tree stands waiting for deer to walk by, (looking for predators perhaps, from above?)
I don’t “bait” spots with corn or scent,
and I don’t take shots - I have NEVER taken a shot - that has ever resulted in having to track an injured animal.
Then again all these principles offend the sensibilities of the modern hunter, stalking the aisles at Cabela’s or Wal-Mart for the latest edge.
Way too many drinking hunters. Way too many drive-by hunters. It’s like a parade of trucks sometimes. Sends me right to Safeway.
I have sworn off hunting because of... ...hunters.
4. Wearing the wrong pants.
Bait an area for a length of time to lure deer in. Watch trail cameras from the comfort of your recliner to pick out the prettiest rack. On the appointed day, climb a tree and sit up their (tip to toe in name-brand camo, of course) and blast your chosen deer.
It's efficient, I guess, and I have no problem with people who do it purely to feed themselves. But people who "hunt" for recreational reasons who use the above method are kind of "lame", IMHO.
Hunting is cruel.
People should get their meat from supermarkets where no animals are harmed.
I know you’re joking but there are liberals who really think like that.
Vegetarian is an old indian word that means bad hunter.
I spent many, MANY hours bow hunting and muzzle loader hunting from a tree stand in thick woods and brush from a climber. PATIENCE. If you can’t sit still and be quiet for THREE hours forget it because that is how long it takes for a deer that did not hear you come in to wander into your view. AT LEAST THREE HOURS. And even then they wind you, they see you. They hear you breathing.
It is like fishing. The FIRST thing the lure has to catch is the guy who buys it...
I started hunting seriously back in the mid seventies. I always was a gun guy (and that is still my only form).....but I got into this whole self sufficient thing. So for years I took only meat...and if a nice rack was attached, that was a bonus. As my needs for outside sources of meat became unnecessary, Hunting became more of a sport or hobby. I still took and used all the meat, but I became cleaverer at getting nice trophies. I did ok.
I don’t currently, actually pursue deer. I Still go up to our camp but mostly just hang around camp as my 3 boys shoot enough meat for us to eat. I enjoy the trip and the hunting cabin lifestyle for a few days a year.
I can’t quantify good or bad hunters except those that don’t follow up on a shot at deer.....and those that waste the meat as bad hunters.
Those who go into the woods without spending weeks in tracking and checking out things.....are regular people who have jobs and families. They get a week or so off and try to enjoy themselves hunting whether they are successful or not.
People who criticize those who do that are hunting snobs and probably don’t have a life outside of hunting.
Just my $0.02
This is why I don’t hunt or fish. ;-)
However, I let hunters use my property. I get a lot of really good venison that way. :-)
Is this some kind of JOKE? Does your definition of "harmed" include "killed"?
You know nothing. Hunting for your own meat is a great deal more moral than getting someone else to do your killing for you.
LOL!!!
oh please...He was being funny!
Yes, it was some kind of a joke. Durrr.
If I were to go hunting I would go to Deer Park and bag a few.... dozen.
Real easy you know : )
