These are the same people who hounded Quale out of politics because he misspelled a word.

Nothing to wonder about. George 1 chose Quayle as VP, expecting him to be a light weight and thus not a threat to dreams of a Bush dynasty. George 1 didn't win a second term, and during the next eight years George 2 had time to sober up and have some accomplishments at stuff handed to him. I wonder as things unfold if George 1 even intended to win against Clinton. Only problem is that Quayle was not a lightweight, and was an impressive statesman and scholar concerning foreign affairs.
That wouldn't do, so two things happened. First, the media chorus about Quayle is an ignoramus. Then throwing so much money into the GWB primary campaigns that it was rigged before voters had a clue what was going on. Forbes was also cut off by these maneuvers for GWB. They tried the same thing for Jeb this year and the only thing that stopped it is that Mr. Trump is a force of nature.
I'm not sure the Dark Side is through. This Evan McMullan who is on the ballot in Utah is scary. He was interviewed on NBC this weekend. The script is if he can win Utah and deny either candidate 270. Then it goes to the electoral college and other scenerios where the elite would choose the President.
This stuff used to be called conspiracy theory. It isn't, and it's been snowballing out of control since the first Bush presidency.
