The stats that 48% of early voters in NC are dimocrats is misleading. Just about everyone I know registered as dimocrat because of local elections for positions like sheriff in counties where black populations are high. For some reason, that I don’t get, those positions are run as party connected so the sheriffs that run, run as dimocrats because many elections for that position are pretty much settled in the primary. When it comes to the general election they always vote republican. At one time there wasn’t the ‘unaffiliated’ category and I don’t think a lot of people even know it exists to this day. I registered as ‘unaffiliated’ and am constantly explaining to people I know that vote republican why they should switch to that category. Most of the time they do when they become aware of it and the advantage of it.
