Personally, I simply want to be loved by God even though I know I'm not worthy of that love (For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God...).
It would be the height of foolishness to want to be God.
What you're really saying, IMO, is that some people wrongly want to control
others as if they were God. The problem there is free will. Wanting to control
others removes the free will God gives us all.
All sin comes from Adam's sin, that is, disobeying God so that he could be like God. Anytime you prefer your will over God's will you are acting as your on god, your own highest authority, so to speak. Lest you think this too is a steaming pile of BS let me refer you to another source:
