President Barack Obama pushed today to renew focus on a so-called public option in the insurance marketplace -- a popular item among progressives, but one Obama publicly hedged against during negotiations leading to the passage of his signature health care law.
In a speech in Miami, Obama said the public option would give folks more options in those places where theres just not enough insurers to compete.
But the president did not mention how during the 2009 negotiations over whats now known as Obamacare the White House used the public option as a bargaining chip -- dropping it as a non-negotiable in order to get moderate Democrats, like Nebraskas then-Sen. Ben Nelson, to vote in favor of the law.
The public option, whether we have it or we dont have it, is not the entirety of health care reform, Obama said in August 2009 during a town hall-style meeting in Colorado, according to The New York Times. This is just one sliver of it, one aspect of it.(continued)

The only way to actually improve the delivery and availability and cost of medicine is to completely remove the government from the field of medicine and of insurance. The only Constitutional government rolde is specified in the weights and measures clause which can be extended to true content.
Here he is telling various audiences his goal is single payer. But he knew it would have to be a Fabian approach.

You'd have the same problem with the delivery and availability and cost of health care even if you had no government involvement -- unless you eliminated insurance companies from the mix, too.
In any financial transaction, prices are a function of supply (provided by sellers) and demand (of buyers). Third-party payments completely distort the economic foundation of the transaction by eliminating the direct interaction of the buyer and the seller.
It's really that simple. This explains why health care costs are spiraling out of control with the notable exception of those procedures that are typically not covered by insurance plans -- including laser eye surgery, dental care (to a degree), and cosmetic surgery.

The sheeple voted in Repub majorities first in the House and then the Senate to act against ACA and Obama. The sheeple were ignored as the Repubs wasted their majorities and did not do one thing for the sheeple that they (the Repubs) promised.
