This the second of Three Proud Poppa posts. The first was posted sometime in July.
If my calculations are correct, my son arrived at Parris Island MC basic training about 45 minutes ago. He is currently getting an education, I am sure.
He told me that he was going to wait until roughly the last 2 weeks of basic to laugh at his DI when yelled at. I told him that was a bad idea. But he is out of touch now.
He is a Christian and could use some prayers. I just want him to survive. His mom was a quivering mess this morning at MEPS.
Prayers up! Thanks.
He’ll only laugh once. After 50 - 100 push-ups, he’ll learn his lesson. ;-) Prayers for your son.
Is he in good physical shape? That will help.
He can do 21 Marine Corp pull ups and 55 pushups, so yeah pretty good shape. I did notice the other Marine recruits. They all looked like very fine young men. I thought Jono could take any of them, except one. That guy was young and already a gorilla.
Your boy will become a very special kind of man in the coming weeks.
I didn't go to Parris Island, but I have a little humble experience of this sort.
Prayers for you son during this wonderful challenge.
My son liked Parris island so much he went back as a drill instructor. Your son is in good hands.
Prayers for your son....and THANK YOUS too!!!
I will pray for him and Mom and you - his name is Jono?
My son was there in ‘97 and there is a beautiful graduation ceremony. Then they move on.
Adding my prayers.
Best of success to him, and thanks for his service.
His full first name is Jonothan (Gallic spelling). I call him Jono. But he insists that his friends now call him "Jon". I, however, have parental rights.
LOL, Jono loves this scene.
You will get a phone call.
He will be yelling at the top of his voice.
You won’t understand a damned word.
You won’t be able to talk back.
Then he will hang up the phone.
You won’t get any sleep tonight wondering just what the hell he’s gotten himself into.
Start writing your letter to him now, it will make you feel better.
I understand and expect that call. It is due on Friday, this week.
May God watch over your son and keep him safe and healthy. Always hard on mom’s when sons leave the nest. Prayers up for your kiddo.
Yeah, that would be a bad idea. You can laugh when you are told to laugh.
Man-o-Man let the FF games begin. Scuzbrush races the length of the squad bays. Extra curricular PT in the sand (flea) pit. Horse flies landing on your freshly shaved head, sucking blood out of you-and can’t move to swat it.
Geez- flashbacks.
He will be fine. My oldest son got out after 5 years. He’s got a whole new outlook on life.
