When I was teaching concealed carry courses, it was fairly common for people to recount such instances, and to say that they did not report them.
Even if they did report them, there is no data collection of such events.

My kids were taught to say that there were no guns in our home. When they were young, that was at least technically true as far as they knew (I won’t go into details on why), so I was not teaching them to lie. As they got older, they learned about inappropriate questions and how to respond more thoughtfully, but still with a flat “no”.

Answer the question with a question.
"Doc, do you have any controlled narcotics stored in your home?"

I have only had on Doctor ever ask about guns. He grew up with my mom and uncle, knew my Uncle had his FFL for years, hunted on our property etc. He prefaced it with “I don’t want to ask but they are making me - Do you have guns in the home?”
I replied “I moved from California back to South Dakota - what do you think?” He laughed and said “I’ll put down “no” and that was the end of it.
Of course, in my town of less than 200 people there are probably more than 2000 guns.

....or brains in the head. In other news, bears have been discovered answering the “call of nature” in heavily wooded areas.

Giving a snarky answer or adopting a hostile tone will simply result in the "YES" box being checked.
The wiser technique here is simply to say, "There are no guns in my home."
Take silent pleasure in the utter misinformation you and millions of other gunowners are feeding into a massive database.
