They got in with bolt-cutters? Pretty crappy locks then. Should be more like safe locks or require special IDs to unlock.

That is the perfect idea for dealing with law-breaking eco-fascists!!!

Sentence them to serve their time (a LONG time) in such a remote, primitive locale with no technology or modern energy sources. Let them try to “live off the land” in a politically correct way. Ofc few will live very long but that’s a feature not a bug!!

The pipelines have valve stations every 20 miles, many of them in remote locations and protected by nothing more than a locked fence. Reuters quotes a Canadian pipeline security specialist who says, given that there are 200,000 miles of pipelines in the U.S., it would be cost prohibitive to place round-the-clock guards at all of the possible places where a pipeline could be shut off.

I was tempted to type "ignorant, stupid and evil American residents," who can only damage and destroy, not defend and protect, but...

Surely there are adults with enough knowledge to protect THIS pipeline, obviously vulnerable and easily accessible.

Valve stations every 20 miles?

Not each of them need 24/7 sureveillance. Take this particular stretch of pipeline. Give me a profile of the pipeline route and and I can tell you where the primary video cameras should be located.

Secondary HiRes cameras at each actually pump station would cost less than $200 each;and can be remotely triggered.

Prohibitively expensive? Compared to what? If the beaurocracy is in charge, it's guaranteed prohibitive. If citizen volunteers assist with the 24/7 surveillance on line, it might be a small fraction.

Alternatively, quick response teams of high speed helicopters at 100 mile intervals out in the middle of nowhere can be dispatched when the primary cameras indicate a potential security breach.

Typical leftist terrorists. My hope is that they are found guilty and that the sentence is death.

Since there doesn’t seem to be any question of guilt in this case, hopefully the activists will spend some time in jail. Climate Direct Action, the group which sponsored and promoted this, is now raising funds for the legal defense of the activists.

I would say that we, as American citizens and oil consumers, have standing to sue Climate Direct Action and the individual members. I for one, would also contribute to funds for the legal prosecution of these indolent parasites, insisting on severe minimum jail sentences.

Climate change activists shut off cross-border oil pipelines in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Washington on Tuesday. The activists broke in to unguarded valve stations and shut off the flow of oil before being arrested.

Where was DHS?? This vulnerability was pointed out a long time ago.

About a month ago a pipeline from the gulf broke in Alabama and cut off gasoline to Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee. Fortunately, it is now fixed, but stations in the Atlanta area ran out of gas. After Katrina in 2005 there were severe gas shortages around Atlanta due to refinery shutdowns. NOTHING has been done to prevent a recurrence, so terrorists can hit the economy hard and bring things to a standstill by attacking pipelines, which thanks to DHS, are fairly soft targets.

Yes, kill them and imprison their families. Make an extreme example of domestic terrorists. Reducing our oil is a national threat.

Pipelines are extremely vulnerable. In the mid east they are attacked and sabotaged all the time.

Attacks on oil pipelines, and that is what this was, have not occurred north of the Rio Grande in my memory. Oil pipelines are critical infrastructure, as critical as airports, seaports, power lines, and nuclear power stations.

People who sabotage critical infrastructure should be jailed and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This is interstate commerce. Why isn't the FBI and the DOJ involved?

Climate Direct Action, the group which sponsored and promoted this, is now raising funds for the legal defense of the activists.

Since they claim responsibility, they should be charged as conspirators. If any of the planning involved telephone calls, US Postal service, or email, the felony conspiracy charges should be escalated with RICO charges.
