Mark Margavage said hes had enough of polished politics.
Margavage, an Edwardsville resident, said he believes Republican Donald Trump is a better presidential candidate than Democrat Hillary Clinton, regardless of the sexually charged comments Trump was recorded as saying about women in 2005.
Margavage said many men make similar comments about women. And hes not alone in his support for Trump.
In an informal Times Leader poll Saturday on Facebook, an overwhelming majority of Trump backers said they still plan to vote for him despite his lewd comments 11 years ago. The poll had reached nearly 7,000 readers over the course of a few hours.
I bet Bill (Clinton) said some of those things too, Margavage said from a barstool at the VFW in Larksville. Its not fair to bring up something from 2005.
Across the bar, Joe Bendick shared many of Margavages views about Trumps remarks, in which the married businessman said in part that he had tried to f- another woman but had failed.
It wasnt clear when the event Trump was describing took place. He apologized for the remarks early Saturday morning.
A lot of people said a lot of things 12 years ago, Bendick said. It has nothing to do with running our country.
Bendick said he hoped voters would focus on the issues.
We need to deal with issues like immigration and welfare reform, he said. Im tired of buying spaghetti at the supermarket with people on food stamps buying lobster.
Ted Pergosky, of Hazleton, made the trip to join his friends at the VFW. He said Trump made a mistake in remarks made about receiving a Purple Heart, having never served in the military.
I have two Purple Hearts, Pergosky said. But I forgive him for that. He gets carried away sometimes.
Pergosky said Trump has presented a platform that will benefit Americans.
Hes going to make sure that people dont take advantage of welfare, he said. Its OK if youre on welfare for a little while, but not forever.
Bendick also emphasized Trumps business acumen.
Hes a smart businessman, and given the massive debt we have, we need that, he said. Trump is a financial genius.
Local Republican politicians also appear to be sticking with Trump.
U.S. Rep Tom Marino, R-Lycoming Township, called Trumps comments about women disgusting and without excuse. But he said he remains the better candidate.
Many have asked if I will continue to work to support Mr. Trumps candidacy. All I can say is that I will be watching in the coming days and I am hopeful he can make amends, Marino said in an email. The American people cannot afford another four years of Obamas failed policies, and that is what a Hillary Clinton presidency guarantees.
In an email, U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Hazleton, voiced his continuing support for Trump.
Donald Trumps comments were indefensible, demeaning and totally inappropriate, Barletta said. He needed to apologize and take responsibility for his actions, and I am glad he took that important step. This election is about the future direction of our country, and we should not hand the keys over to Hillary Clinton.
We need tens of thousand flooding the outside of the debate with all hell;l breaking loose!! Rally time!! Hillary is SATAN. Trump is just a man. Jesus is LORD!!
We need someone to hold up a Marilyn Monroe poster. That should drive home the point in a sly way.
Exactly!
This is what we need and should be doing
No one I know is pulling support of Trump
Why should our so-called leaders?
Good for them.
All of us need to get a lot more vocal outside of FR.
Let the Cheap Labor Express Republicans know that we ARE voting for Trump and we ARE NOT voting for them.
The Marilyn Monroe sign to drive home the point that there is a double standard being applied here. Or how about a sign with Monroe and JFK?
I back Trump 100% - Trump or die - Never Hillary- f that - NEVER !
I’m getting an encouraging sense from the web that Trump supporters are about to bring down hail stones against Hillary and the establishment.
This is their last, best shot. This is the kill shot. If Trump brings it to the Witch tomorrow and has successful rallies in PA on Monday, we will be rolling again.
These folks won't waiver, they have had enough of NAFTA, GAAT, Harriet Meirs, Dubai Ports, Hillary's Health Care Flow Charts, Bill pointing is finger at us, and Ryan, Boehner and McConnell doing ugats for 8 yrs, IRS Tea Party Shenanigans, Obamacare costing a fortune with less care, Bengazi, 4 dead many wounded, the Middle East inflamed, Sticking it to Israel, 30,000 emails destroyed, destroyed devices, and being called a deplorable . The last 30 years are: "What a long strange Trip it's been"....
They are not going anywhere neither am I...
DJT takes OH, PA and MI IMHO, just my 2 cents...
I would prefer kidney stones against Hillary and the establishment but hail stones will do for now.
Only a pinhead would remove support from Donald Trump on the basis of this banter that was recorded years ago. Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Bush family are the ones whose reputations suffer from this sophomoric try to discredit Trump. The topic makes people think again about the severity of Bill Clinton’s alleged rapes, as compared with this verbal locker room male banter.

I can’t understand why NJ or NY aren’t up in arms over the trade agreements as well; they have destroyed this region. We have plenty of former manufacturing areas that are now ghettoes filled with welfarian populations (homegrown or imported), and now have Asians taking many of the white-collar jobs remaining.
That’s funny.

I think the establishment and media will be stunned that this didn’t bring him down. Panic will creep deeply into their small brains and neurosis will be their end.
Leaders? What leaders? They sold out a long time ago. Every second Trump is in the race exposes the fact there isn’t a dime’s bit of difference between the two party’s and how the whole stinking rot of DC and the MSM are all in it together.
NY and NJ just can’t figure out anything: they love paying sky-high bridge tolls for instance.
