PING!
FedGov: “I have altered the deal. Pray I don’t alter it further.”
Alaska: *choke choke*
Big, meddling, Federal Nanny State PING!
I am of the opinion that we need a constitutional amendment that limits federal ownership and control to no more than 20 percent with any “excess” being returned to the State.
From the article, it’s not clear to me what land the Federal Government took.
And I’d like to see some sort of title search.
The Alaska Statehood Act, July 7, 1958, ( http://www.akleg.gov/basis/get_documents.asp?session=29&docid=29890 ) seems to indicate the United States retained title to some of the land within the bounds of Alaska, saying in part:
“As a compact with the United States said State and its people do agree and declare that they forever disclaim all right and title to any lands or other property not granted or confirmed to the State or its political subdivisions by or under the authority of this Act, the right or title to which is held by the United States or is subject to disposition by the United States,...”
The feds care more about fish and wildlife than its own citizens, and I’m not surprised. Its been this way for decades.
