Though it's titled "Two deer with one shot", armchair analysts seem to be feeling anything but awe about this father-son pair's take. Accusations have ranged from there being multiple shots (which seems to be implied in the video), to a 'childish' countdown and poor shooting practice in general, some suggested that their choices in deer taken were unethical, and some accused the video-makers of leaving a deer wandering in pain or dying and wasting the meet (suggestions that while one deer fell, two jumped, implying they were hit).
As one comment from the maker of the video points out, however: Nope just the two [deer were hit], The other one might have caught some fragments [sic] but there was only one blood trail. We thought we had hit three also but as it turns out the largest deer picked up the smaller deer with her head and then fell back down so it looked like she was hit. See the video here.
Is the lesson, then, that one should never waste a meet with a deer?
Slob hunting at its finest.
My friend accidentally did that once as well. It went through the doe and hit the fawn behind it.
I accidentally did that a number of years ago. My .30-06 killed the buck and a following doe behind it with the same shot. It was legal because we tagged both, but my son was really angry with me because we had to use his tag to do so, ending his season.
Ha ha. You owed him next year. Both tags.
Did a ‘two-fer’ once. A six point walked out in front of me at the back end of a herd. I fired and killed it. Walked over to dress it and heard a commotion in the brush beyond. Walked over and it stopped. Just as I turned, I saw brown. Upon inspection, I found a 4 point laying. Dressed and dragged mine out to home, got in the car and bought my mother a hunting license. Returned to the scene of the “crime” tagged it, dressed it and started dragging it out. Game warden stopped me at the road and checked the tag and the license. Just nodded and said “OK, Mrs. XXX, take it home.”
