Even when you’re not offended, somebody takes offense.

The progressives eating their own.
The Orient simply refers to the “Lands to the East” when referred to by those in Europe or Africa in times past. I always call what are knowns as Asians, Orientals, or when looking to puzzle someone, Ornamentals.
Wait until someone from the Middle East calls themselves semite and they aren’t Jewish. That’ll throw anyone off their game.
Claiming offense is nothing more than a rhetorical trick for putting someone else on the defensive, for getting the advantage and pressing for some concession; nowadays the concession usually involves a payment of money to the one claiming offense.
WTH is so offensive about oriental?
I will continue to call them oriental.
Unless we finally move to calling everyone by color. Which is much more efficient. White and black need to be matched by similar.
For Americans, “Oriental” has customarily been used to distinguish between far eastern peoples and the rest of Asia. Asia’s a VERY big place, and their are historical, racial, and cultural similarities that make it convenient to be able to have a subgroup of entities that have a commonality that doesn’t apply to Asia at large. China (free and Red), Korea, Japan, Thailand, etc. have much in common that they do not share with Irkutsk, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan. Oriental is an easy way to refer to those nations and/or people collectively.
I never use the word “oriental” unless it’s occidental.
