Rousseau said man was born free and everywhere there are chains. Hume disagreed saying man wasn't truly free until mechanisms in society were implemented to protect people and their property.

I wonder if our predecessors will think of such things, chained to a bed in the dark, waiting for the master to return.

Just as info for the general readership here: Missouri Synod pastors are overwhelmingly Republican, if for no other reason than the church’s opposition to abortion.
Shouldn’t support for abortion be grounds for removal of a lay person too?
It would be a “Scotch revival” but it would be the right thing to do.

We lost about 1/3 of our LCMS congregation when our previous pastor made opposition to abortion a stay-or-go issue, and pledged the church support of a local pregnancy life center. The present pastor is pro-life as well, but the congregation has shrunk to the point that, barring a revival miracle, it will not survive the deaths of most of the present members, which will occur in the next decade.

Your church did a very good, faithful thing, in my opinion.

We are just to be faithful unto death, even church death.
