Garry Trudeau and the Moral Equivalence of the Progressive Left

Sometimes people are slow to learn a lesson, but fanatical Islamists are nothing if not diligent in their pedagogic urges. Lately they have taught us, again, that the only provocation required to inflame them is our existence—which means some people have a lot to apologize for after the latest assault on Western values, along the seaside in Nice.

Let’s start with Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau who, barely 15 months ago, suggested that the satirists at the French magazine Charlie Hebdo were complicit in their own assassinations. “Charlie Hebdo, which always maintained it was attacking Islamic fanatics, not the general population, has succeeded in provoking many Muslims throughout France to make common cause with its most violent outliers,” Trudeau said. “This is a bitter harvest.”

Lie down with dogs and you’ll get fleas; sow jokes about Islam and you’ll reap bullets...

Thing is CH was an equal opportunity blasphemer. In fact they were far more vigorous in attacking Christianity and particularly the Catholic Church with their objectionable cartoons. When the slaughter occurred I also posted a few ‘We are Charlie’ a few times.

And then I went to actually see what cartoons they did. Numerous are utterly blasphemous from a Christian perspective. And then I saw one which basically settled my opinion about them. It’s one which had an object with the name Holy Spirit on it being used for anal intercourse. Immediately one passage came to mind in the Scriptures, “Truly I tell you,all sins and blasphemes will be forgiven for the sons of men. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” (Mark 3:28ff.).

I’m big time into free speech etc. but these guys were playing with fire.

I agree. He’s more of a lean-to.

Just celebrated their jade anniversary.

I sent them a copy of Ayatollah Khomeini's fatwa against Salman Rushdie as a gift.

Garry Trudeau has been an irrelevant nobody since the 1970’s. He can’t even draw his own strip, and never could.

I wouldn't waste a lot of time on the likes of Trudeau. Here is a guy who has grown wealthy tweaking the establishment of his time, secure in the certainty that he's immune from their displeasure. And who is he criticizing now? Yes, cartoonists who are tweaking the establishment of their time and paying for it with their lives.

The man's a moral bankrupt. I won't waste another thought on him.

My old town’s local newspaper has long printed his nonsensical “Doonesbury” crap in an attempt to provide “balance” against the brilliant and provocative Mallard Fillmore. They did this even though there were about 100 liberals in the town and 5,000 conservatives; of the 100 liberals, it is likely that only three of them actually read Doonesbury, and only one of them actually enjoyed it.

Trudeau’s career exists only because of this compulsive need from some “journalists” to provide “balance”, even though the media as a whole is 99% liberal.

Garry Trudeau is today’s ‘establishment’. Wonder if he knows Bill Ayers? Probably best-buds.
