I watched the movie on TV, “Purge”. This was supposed to be a new scheme implemented to reduce rampant crime, homelessness, and unemployment, by, for a period of 12 hours, completely suspending any criminal proceedings against anyone who wished to kill, maim, or burglarize anyone they wished, with no consequences for the perpetrators, and a vast clean-up after the carnage.
The concept was pretty dreadful. But wait, it gets worse. A second film in the series, Purge: Anarchy, puts the carnage on a city-wide scale, with squads and counter-squads openly fighting in the streets.
This was only the run-up for a third film being released this Friday, Purge: Election Year, in which this reaches all the way to top levels of the government, in which elections get determined by whichever side manages to knock off its rivals. The slogan? “Keep America Great”.
No bias there.
Yeah, just when I think they can’t get any more flaming...
