Burgum wins nomination for ND governor Burgum rode the anti-establishment wave from the beginning, waging an almost micro-targeted campaign pushed by his consultant out of the Washington, D.C., area. Burgum embraced Donald Trump, painted Stenehjem as a supporter of Obamacare, hammered Stenehjem on the current state of the North Dakota budget. It was a non-stop blizzard of polling hot-button issues and talking points. Burgum's campaign would push-poll residents one week and mail campaign flyers the next, pounding Stenehjem on issues like the raises he received as attorney general.
Burgum's campaign was a 2016 Corvette. Stenehjem's, run by a Bismarck advertising agency that's long been a power broker in state Republican politics, reacted like a 1971 AMC Hornet.
The candidates appeared the same way. Burgum was everywhere, Stenehjem lagged. Burgum is four years younger than Stenehjem, but it seemed like 40. The ground games were not comparable. Burgum's was youthful and fresh, Stenehjem's was old-school.

People are fed up. There’s no way to poll for that.

Interesting................
From your mouth to God’s ears
My son, who lives in Texas, exchanges frequent emails with a friend from high school, who now lives in Fargo area and is politically active on the local level. Friend said there are a lot of similarities between Burgum and Trump. He cannot be financially bought, is incredibly high energy, openly displayed disgust with the GOPe, has no record but appeared trustworthy. He is pro 2nd amendment, believes in controlling expenses and is anti-taxes. Lots of fence mending to do with state Republicans.
Also said he had a lot of friends in the oil patch who had never voted before but voted this time and lots of Democrats crossing over.
HOORAY Burgum AE
HOORAY Trump AE
AE = Anti-Establishment, American Entrepreneur, American Exceptionalism
We need more. Uniparty kabuki is not working.
This guy is actually my relative....honestly. We just don’t know each other. Burgum was my grandmother’s maiden name.
Burgam was the CEO of Great Plains software and sold it to Mocrosoft in the early 2000’s.
He is a lot more liberal than many believe but is an outsider who hates the way the Republican and Democratic Party establishments are run according to my friends in North Dakota.
That’s neat. Would be interesting to find out what relation he is, then meet up with him and introduce yourself.
I was adopted and did my ancestry search, discovered my bio father died from excessive drinking and my great grandfather was a horse thief and died by hanging. You are way more fortunate than I as far as at least your one relative is concerned.
And?
OMG ... We don’t know everything but so far nothing as colorful as what you found out.
Well, as they say you can pick your friends but not your family. Both my kids love horses and love to ride. Maybe because of their horse thieving great, great grandfather? LOL
When we were trying to locate my mother’s birth family I called Burgum’s office and - probably due to all his money - I got an assistant. I explained that I was looking for my relatives and that Burgum was one of them - and of course I got nowhere....couldn’t even talk to him. However, he is a relative and if they’d ever have another Burgum family renunion then I’d meet him.
It became a non issue because meanwhile my sister found the brothers who were in San Diego and we ended up all finally meeting.
