PERU have knocked Brazil out of the Copa America in the group stage in the most controversial circumstances, with Raul Ruidiaz turning the ball into the net with his hand to inflict a 1-0 defeat on the Selecao.
To: Berlin_Freeper
That was a shame; I would have liked Peru to beat Brazil fair & square, but winning like that was pathetic. The commentators noted that an additional official used by UEFA but not by CONMEBOL would have clearly spotted that.

I feel more than a little sorry for Brazil. They were foolish enough to stage the last World Cup and ended up with an historic humiliation in payment. They get knocked out of the Copa America on a bad call. Now they are staging the Olympics -- more foolishness -- and the games are reeling from myriad factors while their preeminent team seems lost.
They bid for the World Cup and the Olympics years ago when Brazil was the emerging giant and the future seemed bright. Once again, it pays to be careful what you wish for ....

GOAL! Spain 1-0 Czech Republic (Pique 87)
Spain lead at the last. This preposterous little genius Iniesta, lurking on the left of the box after a half-cleared corner, coaxes a wonderful dipping cross in between defenders and the goalkeeper, and Pique cushions a well-placed header into the corner from a few yards.

Yes, that was pretty blatant. I’m not weeping for Brazil, mind you. But dang, not only should the goal been disallowed, but the Peru player given a straight Red for that.

USA and Ecuador in the Quarterfinals. Maybe, just maybe, Klinsi is getting it turned around, they looked much better, albeit, still a way to go (getting rid of Bradley would be a good start).

The Republic of Ireland arrive at their second successive European Championship hoping to at least do better than their miserable group stage exit in 2012, when they lost all three games and conceded nine goals.

Roy Keane will not be repeating his famous walk-out from the Republic of Ireland camp of 2002 despite his bed at the team's Euro 2016 base being too soft.
