Seems like they are just spinning their wheels until the next book comes out.

Given the pace at which Martin writes these days, that's not a plan that's going to work.

The first three books - the good ones - came out quickly. The last good one came out in 2000 - good grief. Then a five year gap for 'Feast of Crows', which was my WTF moment for the books. Then a six year gap for 'Dance of Dragons', which consisted of Tyrion aimlessly trekking back and forth across the continent he fled to a decade earlier, and the famous 'Myreneese Knot', which Martin resolved by having his heroine get a case of the runs.

I may read 'Winds of Winter' when it comes out in paperback, but I'd rather read the next Joe Abercrombie 'First Law' book if I want fantasy these days - there's a guy who knows how to write a compelling story with a resolution in less than three decades.

Of course, Martin isn't the worst. I'm still waiting for the next book in David Gerrold's 'Chtorr' series (last one ended on a cliff-hanger), and I read the last one in college.

May I recommend the “Riftwar Saga” by Raymond Feist? (Sp?) Start with “Magician: Apprentice” - some good writing and a great story if you enjoy epic fantasy.

My vote would be for Robert Jordan and his 'Wheel of Time' series...first book was released
in 1990...he died before finishing it...Brand Sanderson finished it: books 12, 13, & 14
in 2013...Martin is a piker by comparison...my fear is that the same will happen with him and
this series.
