For a guy who supposedly doesn’t understand policy, Donald Trump sure seems to understand it a lot better than some of the people who cover the news . . . or some of the people who knee-jerk react to the headlines in the news.
One of the first media narratives we got coming out of Trump’s essential clinching of the nomination was that he was now abandoning his conservative positions and tacking to the left, thus proving that all conservatives who voted for him had been suckers. And the leading example we heard was Trump’s “flip-flop” on the minimum wage. Primary season? No raise in the minimum wage? General election season? Hey, he’s open to it. You suckers believed him!
Ask Rush, he admitted the headline didn’t match what Trump said.
Donald Trump has been totally consistent on core issues for thirty years. This is like their saying “I don’t want people dying in the streets” to mean that he supports “single payer healthcare.” He said he want the states to take care of this. That is the “conservative” position, last time “conservative” meant following the Constitution.
Well worth the 28 minutes to see what a consistent conservative really looks like! Thirty years, same speech!

Isn’t it funny, how some “so called conservatives” in their personal dislike of Trump, are now resorting to the leftist tactics of using headlines to shape the opinions. Sad to see.
On the other hand ...., each one of these media generated “flip-flops” to a “liberal” position can only help Donald Trump in the General Election! The Bernie followers are not that bright and will believe that Donald Trump is a liberal like they are! Again, now weapon formed against him shall prosper! :-)
States raising minimum wages is a good thing. Maybe a great thing. When employees don’t make living wages, they qualify for tens of thousands of dollars of benefits, paid for the taxpayer. Then they complain (American) wants to work (for those wages), and import illegal aliens, who then cause all sorts of additional costs. So, I’m all for the invisible hand of the free market, but we don’t have a free market, so how is the free market going to work successfully? Ban welfare, illegal immigration, and market-distorting types of legal immigration, and we can start talking about ending the minimum wage.
But here’s the thing: a *national* minimum wage is an abuse of the commerce clause and no, it doesn’t make sense to treat $15 the same in San Francisco and Jackson, Mississippi. In fact certain states, such as California, New York, Illinois and Texas should consider regional minimum wages.
Actually, he did say that he could see raises in minimum wages, but he did NOT say that the fed should do it. He said it should be a state issue, and I know that my state has a minimum wage as well.
That makes sense, too. The cost of living in New York is a whole lot different than the cost of living in rural Ohio. It’s just a fact.
Personally, I think marginal increases in minimum wage are no big deal. I think huge increases affect availability of jobs.
There is the issue of whether or not there should even be a minimum wage, but we’ve already lost that war. There is one.
Since there is one, it is ALWAYS used at election time to hammer one candidate or the other, AND it gets traction. It is only sane for a candidate to balance the best way to handle the issue when it comes up. When your campaign is targeting lower middle class cross-overs, it’s probably wise to consider the minimum wage a throw-away issue. If being doctrinaire ruins the campaign, then don’t ruin the campaign over a throw-away issue. There ALREADY is a minimum wage.

This was apparent immediately if you actually listened to what Trump said. His main theme was to create a huge number of good paying job so everyone would be able to earn a decent wage to support themselves and their families, essentially making the minimum wage issue irrelevant.
As is typical the #NeverTrumps jump on a media story that misrepresents what Trump actually says and they scream and orgasm over how they’ve finally got him now! Trump sure gets inside the heads of his opponents.

In one of my earlier posts, I said that this all follows a well worn pattern - Trump says something, the Liberals go ballistic, Liberals claim OPPOSITE of what Trump said, Trump proves to be right.
