A variety of techniques are used by the various states to select their delegates to the GOP convention. I think this is a wonderful manifestation of the 10th amendment.

Freepers, do you agree with me that the state to state variety in the GOP process is a wonderful manifestation of the 10th amendment?

WOW! The lengths you crus supporters are willing to go to justify the unethical actions of your candidate are amazing.

I invite you to find a way to attend one of these conventions, as it is a great eye opener. But considering the problems both conventions are having in finding the normal sea of corporate funds which pay for them, I think this will be your last opportunity to actually see a convention in action.

Think of a great sea of big money donors surrounded by a drooling media (and the wandering hoard of pool cameras) surrounded by a ring of liberal protestors (doesn’t matter which convention you’re going to, the same protestors are at both.) Of course, you’ll be searched, inspected and verified before you are permitted entry by secret service agents.

When we instead could have a top-down, Soviet style, one style fits all, uniform system imposed by Mordor-on-the-Potomac?

Yeah, count me in for states’ rights.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the 10th amendment. You’re trying too hard on this, I think.

Not when you leave the voters are left out of the equation. State wide elections need to be held. No caucuses, straw polls or any other nonsense. Let the people decide.

Um, no. Political parties are private clubs that can choose their candidates any way they please. This is an exercise in the 1st Amendment, if anything. The 10th Amendment has nothing to do with it.

I thought there was something in our Constitution that made elections a state responsibility with respect to delegates, electors, etc.

Maybe I am wrong but that is why I lumped it in as a 10th amendment thing.

Yeah, there’s lots of stuff about elections, some of which can be run by the states. The primaries, however, are the business of the parties.

Sorry if I was a bit snippy, but I’m a little tired of people not understanding that the parties don’t owe anybody in particular a say in their nominations. I think it’s in the best interest of a party to engage their base, but I think we’re also seeing how much the elites dislike that idea.
