Somebody said, Well, theres a rule and another rule. I dont care about rules, folks. We win, we get the delegates. Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump
That, in a nutshell, summarizes the Trump campaigns approach to winning the 2016 Republican presidential nomination; defying and discarding conventional rules of politics, refusing to abide by the traditional rules of decorum that provide a patina of civility to an often bitter political process, choosing instead to resort to character assassination and open mockery of his opponents (likening Ben Carson to a child molester, branding Cruz Lyin' Ted, labeling Rubio Little Marco, and mocking Carly Fiorinas looks, just to name a few).
Trump, with virtually no traditional political organization to start, relied on sheer force of will and a larger-than-life personality to rise in the polls. Trumps faux pas and unapologetic coarseness seemed only to increase his popularity. Trump has been the frontrunner in the race almost from the day he announced.
His non-traditional strategy has worked well thus far, but recently, like Achilles' heel, Trumps lack of grassroots political organization has proven a serious liability. By contrast, long before he announced his own candidacy, Ted Cruz was working in the political ditches, recruiting grassroots activists and local elected officials at the county and district level to serve as campaign chairs and eventually as delegates during the Republican convention cycle. It has paid off. The race has come down to the strength of Trumps cult of personality versus the breadth and depth of Cruzs grassroots campaign organization.
A month ago, Trump looked unstoppable. He did extremely well though not quite as well as expected in the Super Tuesday states. He bested Cruz in the Southern states that made up the Cruz firewall, he was being endorsed by former foes, and there were open calls for the party to unite behind him. However, after Cruzs strong showings in recent weeks, and unforced errors on Trumps part (like saying that women who have abortions need to be punished), what seemed an inevitable Trump run to 1,237 (the number of delegates needed at the convention to win the nomination) now seems increasingly in doubt. Trump supporters are livid at the possibility that the nomination will be stolen from their man by a mysterious, nefarious cabal of political insiders.
No the furor is because idiot Cruz supporters think they are sooooooo smart that while they scream out of one side of their mouths about how much they hate the Gope (supposedly), they are busily singing their praises out the other, hoping that they take pity on this pathetic candidate and hand him the nomination.
They are cucks, and the Gope knows this. They will let these bumpkins do their silly act for the cameras, but come brokered convention time, that fool is back on the slow train to Texas, and Romney, Ryan, Bush, or Rubio will be walking out of there.
And the big question not asked is IF Cruz is the nominee can he win WITHOUT Trump supporters? I won’t vote for him.
If there is a Brokered Convention and G.O.P pisses away it's momentum with Shenanigans, than they are going to Lose in November, even if Cruz is the Nominee.
Whoever it is going to be needs to win outright. Too Much Bad Blood would have been brewed in our own ranks for the Repub Nominee to win. (We control our own destiny, 2016 is ours to lose)
And The GOPe and Bosses are perfectly fine with a loss.
Why? Because what difference would it make? Hillary is Pres? oh no....They still have their Buffets, Their Crackers and Cheese and they get to go to Nine Rivers Country Club every Sunday, so shut up base.
Nope. And he won't, either.
The danger is ... once there is a convention, differing ideas can be accepted and end up changing our system, very dangerous to allow such a possibility without clear cut rules, times, subjects.
Never open the door to possible disaster. MOO!
Stupidity happens ... beware the diversion.
Trump is betting all his chips on the 1237 strategy. And not only betting he will win that number of delegates (he won’t) but betting that even if he somehow DOES make 1,237, the GOP-e won’t still steal it away from him.
He’s a fool.
Ted knows he’ll never make 1,237, so he is co-conspiring with the GOP-e to block Trump at all costs. Even knowing (he better know) that even if they are successful, the GOP-e still will likely stab Cruz in the back and hand the nomination over to Ryan.
Trump is REFUSING to align with the Repubs and their schemy convention shenanigans at all as he has all his chips on the 1,237 marker.
Ugly, nasty business, eh?
I'll WRITE IN TRUMP! Your boy Cruz carried ONE, cont it,ONE STATE in the South TEXAS. He hasn't a prayer in the General.
Besides Trump, who would you vote for? I’ll vote for anyone who runs against Clinton or Sanders. My favorite candidate is the one is most likely to beat them, Establishment or otherwise.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The GOP-e sucks. You know that and I know that.
So hate on Ted all you wantfor sucking up here.
But the fact is - unless you get in bed with the GOP-e; you ain’t gonna get the nomination. Even IF you get that magic number of 1,237.
Ted knows this. Trump does not.
Rush just said that the joke in DC is “better to lose with Cruz.” The GOPe knows that Cruz will lose coming out of a contested convention, but they don’t care, because Hillary will keep the goodies flowing to the insiders of both parties.
That's very likely. And as a Cruzer, let me tell you this...
I can live with that a lot better than Trump as the winner.
Even if that means a loss in November.
It is, almost by definition, a strategic error to attempt an insurrection from the inside. Politics within the two closed parties is an insiders game. Bernie’s won eight of nine and he’s not caught up to Hillary at all. To win there, you must fight as an insider. Maybe he understood it, maybe not, but Trump was an insurrection...the entire body was going to come together to force the invader out.
He should have done this from the outside, and faced them in the general. He’s getting whipsawed by the party closing around itself.
All I can say is that we’ll see what happens at the convention, and how the candidates numbers stack up. If the one with the most pledged delegates wins, great. If the GOP decides to throw away the whole voter primary process and coronate a nominee? If that is the case, then I wouln’t want to be a politician anywhere near Cleveland.
Turns out they were right.
And Trump supporters think Trump should be handed the win even if he doesn’t have a majority of delegates. If Trump wants to win, then he had better do more than whine that Cruz is “stealing” delegates.
Well Cruz wont have them...at least not through straight votes of the people.
But who needs votes from plebs!?!
