Earlier this year, Bernie Sanders was asked whether he would support reparations for slavery in America.
His answer, more or less, was no.
And yet the fact that a serious presidential candidate addressed reparations speaks to the idea’s recent resurgence. In Seattle, reparations have found a champion in Anne Hirsch, a certified midwife and member of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, an organization of white people who work under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party.
We spoke with Hirsch about the growing momentum behind reparations.
SW: Why do you feel it is important for white Americans to engage in this issue? Hirsch: This is about colonialism. Colonialism is the oppression of one nation by another nation for the benefit of one people at the expense of another. And since the founding of the country, that has been the relationship between European white people and African people. So our relationship began when we enslaved them and brought them to a land where we had committed genocide against Native people and killed them and stole their land. There are so many lies in our education system and that’s not what we’re told, but when we realize that our lifestyle was built with this murderous, tortuous, parasitic relationship with African people, you know that the only way to make a difference in that is to pay reparations
Are you saying that resistance to reparations from the white community comes from a misunderstanding of the history of slavery? No, I think it comes from opportunism. We like our white lifestyle and we like to ignore how it was created....

What freedoms don't they have? Guarantee you that Ms. Hirsch wouldn't give a straight, specific answer, but would instead drone on about "colonialism" and so-called "white privilege."

If the fruitcake did some research she would find most all the money going to the southeast. The rest of the nation would not like paying all this money to go into the southeast.
Also,anyone receiving reparations needs to have welfare deducted that any family received over generations. And prison isn’t free either so that should also be deducted from any reparations payments.
Hirsch is a (cough-cough) popular white name.
I think you noticed the same thing I did about many articles like this.
Rival African tribes and Arabs enslaved them. Does she want to make them pay up, too?
Will "self-reporting" do? Or will genetic testing be enforced? Will the "One Drop Rule" apply? Will an apparently "Black" person with 1/16 European ancestry get less than a "Pure-Blood?" Will recent immigrants or the descendants of recent immigrants (e.g., someone whose grandparents immigrated to the U.S. just after WW I) be exempt from having to pay (or will something like "White Privilege" be employed as an argument). How about descendants of soldiers who fought and died in the Civil War to free the slaves?. Etc.

Well, no.
The Arabs and Africans themselves created the slave-trade.
Who has slavery in their family tree? Probably lots of people who are not black.
The English sold 2/3s of the Irish population into slavery during the 1600s. In my own family tree my g-g-g-g-grandfather purchased an Irish woman around 1650, freed her and married her.
Reparations are a crock. It’s based on ancient history and needs to be forgotten.
