Controversial coal executive Robert Murray is planning a fundraiser for Ted Cruz on April 6, though he says he isn’t endorsing the Texas senator for president.

Murray, the CEO of the Ohio-based Murray Energy Corp., said he would support the eventual Republican nominee but wants to help fill Cruz’s campaign account to keep him competitive with front-runner Donald Trump.

“I have not picked a candidate, but I do know that Ted Cruz needs some money,” Murray told The Hill from his office in St. Clairsville, Ohio, which is located directly over a coal mine. “I think at this time in this scramble that helping Ted Cruz probably helps America in keeping the situation going for a time.”

Murray estimated that 450 people will attend the fundraiser for Cruz.

"Realistically, that's all we'll have, and that's all we're planning for," he said.

†Murray is holding the event personally, and his company is not involved in any way, he emphasized....

Anyone whose livelihood or power supply relies at all on coal is fracking insane to ever vote for a Democrat again.

The only promise Obama ever kept was his promise to destroy the coal industry.

Meanwhile Trump is not holding any fundraisers, and therefore, does not owe anyone any political favors.

:D

Just saying. We have the wealthiest guy running for the GOP nomination in the history of our country.

(I think so, anyway)

He’s saying we’re completely on the wrong path, and I completely agree with him.

So do quite a lot of people, including quite a lot of FReepers.

You are a big Cruz supporter. Have been for this entire election cycle.

Just saying. Trump is winning. Cruz will not be the next president. He just won’t be.

If Cruz manages to stop Trump, we will end up with Mitt Romney, or some other go-along get-along mainstream GOP guy who will continue the same cycle which has been going on for the entire last generation.

Stand down.

We need to fight for our party. Stop fighting each other.

Just my opinion.

I bet Ted Cruz won’t stand there and state he’s out to destroy the coal industry.

It still boggles my mind that obama was allowed to get away with that.

We need to fight for our party.

Exactly. So don't vote for the Democrat. Vote for the Conservative instead.

Cruz should stand back with quivering lips and let Carly speak.

Well I have to hand it to you, that was a clever and interesting reply.

:D

I’m just saying, Cruz is not going to win the presidency this time around.

Trump will win, or he will be stopped, in which case the GOP will immediately jump in and take back control of the party.

Those are the two options at this point.

No matter how clever, how inspired, how patriotic you want to feel about things, that won’t change.

Trump is winning. Cruz is not.

We should all start now getting together, to defeat the democrats in the coming election.

“Meanwhile Trump is not holding any fundraisers, and therefore, does not owe anyone any political favors.”

So the message here is that only the rich can run for political office, because we certainly don’t want to risk the appearance of being bought by anyone. And certainly the super rich don’t owe anyone, do they?

So lets all start pushing to get money out of politics!

I guess the idea of the citizen government is over.

No I am not at all saying regular people do not have a very strong role in government.

Not at all.

But we do need a reset button. The cart has started driving. It is not supposed to be that way.
