A free concert is very nice, but it's a reminder that Cuba remains in communist squalor
It was awfully nice of the Rolling Stones to go to Havana this past weekend and play a concert for free. Im sure the longtime victims of communism appreciated the gift - especially since exposure to any media that would have made them aware the Rolling Stones exist put them in jeopardy of prison under the Castro regime that Barack Obama thinks we can learn from about civil rights.
The Stones may be almost as old as the Castros, but they rocked, as they always do. But before we consider this a real breakthrough in the fortunes of everyday Cubans, lets keep some perspective on what actually happened:
The Rolling Stones on Friday played an historic gig at the Ciudad Deportiva stadium in Havana, entertaining tens of thousands of fans in Cubas capital, and marking their first appearance in the country in 54 years as a band. This free concert came just a few days after President Barack Obama made his own landmark visit to the island-nation.
US Tax Payer Free ? Care of Obama ?
I must say, those 1950s-era Cuban automobiles aged better than the Rolling Stones!
I am sure it didnt cost anything to get to the arena to see them, but I highly doubt that they did it for free.
60 years of communists dictatorship, famine, executions and they get a free concert from a group of 70 year olds. Pathetic.
If they did do it for free I’d like to know when they’ll be doing a free concert for the men and women that have cleared the path for their own freedoms!!
If the 70+ year old Rolling Stones were presented to me as one of the benefits of Capitalism, I’d vote to keep Cuba Communist . . . .
Someday they may even have television in Cuba.
Half the buildings in Beautiful Socialist Cuba, look as if they are about to crumble.
I’m glad the Beatles broke up while they were young, the Rolling Stones look embarrassing.
Yeah, me too, though Paul McCartney is doing a pretty good job of embarrassing himself.
Does anyone really think the Stones performed for free? They didn’t. There were sponsors that paid them. The Rolling Stones don’t do anything for free.
