Education is **not** the reason. These countries lack rule of law and a profound respect for private property.
A rational person will not work hard or be inventive when thugs, either government thugs or community thugs, will steal their hard work from them.
These are two different things. In the home country, indeed, the lack of the rule of law with respect to property and contract prevent the home economy from growing. This in turn generates the demographic bulge. A father with N+1 son will do better than a father with N sons, who will do better than the father of N-1 sons in the thug environment; a college degree would be nearly worthless whether it is available or not, and so it usually is not available at home.
The education is, however critical for success in the West. But that takes, first, sufficient entry-level education; in the Arab world that may not be enough. Secondly it takes the orientation toward the Western social values, such as the desire to assimilate and learn. That also is nowhere to come from for the “bulge” kids.
