Poorly written article - horrible.

The lib business owners tried to grow coffee in Panama at an altitude above which coffee normally grows.

Here is the best line: "The altitude at Finca Sophia is 6,300 feet, which means the plants are as oxygen–starved as a socialist’s brain.

Yeah, plants don't use oxygen but I suppose the writer wanted to use the phrase.

Uh ... yes, they do. So do socialits. But the plants actually yield something useful ... even belladonna and cacti.

Yes, it is correct that plants do not consume oxygen. However, they do consume carbon dioxide and the amount of CO2 is also diminished at higher altitudes. In fact, the effect of altitude on CO2 is actually greater than on O2 because CO2 is denser than O2.
