That’s not a rat. Someone killed Lassie.

“The rodent was up to three feet long and appeared to be a Gambian pouched rat, according to the Daily News.”

When I first read this I thought it was a recipe for Gambian “poached” rat.

Meh. Standard pitchfork isn’t as wide as it appears in the pic. Neither is the scraper the first rat is on. Those pictures have an odd forced perspective. I dare say they’re barely bigger than normal rats, if any bigger at all.

“{Who walks around with a pitch fork in New York City?”

Haven’t you heard? A tree grows in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn is much more a congested suburb than a city - it ain’t Manhattan.

Thanks for that story. Brings me back to my days of scurrying into bunkers dodging 122mm rocket fire at FSB A-4 on the DMZ. We had to duel with the rats that would start bugging out when the bunker shook. One guy had a chunk of his lip bitten off when a rat went after some C-Rat peanut butter left on his lip after he had fallen asleep.

When they packed up the mess hall tent, a whole horde of them ran out from underneath it. We had to break up that infiltration with E-Tools, boots and rifle butts.

I was once very nearly an Olympic biathlete (skiing, shooting) and one of the fellows with whom I trained had the following summer job description: Ride ATV around, shoot prairie dogs.

Funny thing, we talked about it later and it really bothered him.

Huge difference between rats & prairie dogs - rats are dangerous pets that spread disease, even bite humans, and the world has far too many of them......Prairie dogs are cute little fella’s that generally don’t hurt anyone, but do cause holes in the prairie’s that can be a problem for big 4-legged beasts......
