To me, the single most important function of government is to physically protect the people of this country (which includes “allowing” us to continue to literally defend our own lives from criminals and our liberties from the government). Part of that is also, necessarily, to protect and back our allies, while simultaneously opposing or undercutting our enemies and their allies. Second most important is to protect their ability to earn a decent wage, so that there is both a high level of happiness AND the ability to properly fund the physical protection. This issue goes to tax policy, a balanced budget (or at least moving substantially in that direction), regulatory policy and immigration policy.

On both of these issues (or all four - Defense, Foreign Policy, Economic/Budget Policy and Immigration Policy), Trump comes out better than (or, at worst, at least equal to) any of the other candidates. That’s good enough for me. As to all of the other issues out there, while they are important, they are not nearly as critical as the others. Obama and the Dems are dead wrong on those issues, so allowing Bernie or Hillary to win would make the “side issues” rather moot.

Right now, we need to literally save our country. On the issues that are critical to get right in order to do that, Trump is conservative enough for me. Anything else is cream on the cake, but I am not obsessed with the cream. Let’s first make sure that we have a house in a decent, in which we can have a working oven to bake that cake...THEN worry about the frosting.
