It is sometimes maintained that Bernie Sanders can’t be as anti-Israel as some of his positions would indicate, because he spent time on a kibbutz there. After all, this is a guy who in the January 17 Democrats’ presidential debate said, ““I think what we’ve got to do is move as aggressively as we can to normalize relations with Iran,†and who wanted to deny weapons to Israel prior to the Yom Kippur War in the 1970s.
These positions are actually quite consistent with the politics of the kibbutz Sanders chose for his time in Israel. Daniel Greenfield of Front Page Magazine has the story:
In 1963, Sanders had told Yossi Melman that he had been at Kibbutz Sha'ar Ha'amakim as a guest of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement. Israel had all sorts of Kibbutzim affiliated with various political movements. Hashomer Hatzair was about as bad as it got.
Kibbutz Sha'ar Ha'amakim had been co-founded by Aharon Cohen, the Arabist, who was a regular critic of Israel and opponent of its policy. He was arrested for spying for the USSR in the 50s. (snip)

As late as 1969, well after Bernie's 1963 visit, Dissent was describing Hashomer Hatzair kibbutzim as "Stalinist".
Western lefties with a Hashomer Hatzair background include Noam Chomsky. Chomsky wrote that he was fairly close to "Hashomer Hatzair, but couldn't join because it was split between Stalinists and Trotskyites."
Kibbutz Sha'ar Ha'amakim was, in fact, part of the communist organizational support system, dedicated to the triumph of communism under the leadership of the Soviet Union.

Bernie Sanders has views that are weird for my preferences, but give him credit. He's led a good life, succeeded at many things, and represents VT very well. VT is a unique place.
What should we be talking about on the dem side? How about Hillary's huge speaking fees from the worst of the banks? Shouldn't we be bothered that those banks own pols on both sides of the political aisle?
I know these Brooklyn ‘progressive ‘ scum. They got together to move to a low occupancy state and did just that. These are later day Julius and Ethel Rosenberg types who stole Vermont from the natives to make a Marxist paradise. To bad they destroyed tail gunner Joe McCarthy. The longer Bernie stays in the race on the dems’ side, the better. He’s already been able to pull Hillary hard left, to positions from which she’s going to have a hard time mitigating in the general election.
If this helps to lead to the GOP nominee’s defeating Hillary in November, Bernie should be given a golden hammer and sickle, a bust of Stalin or whatever his little red heart desires as a gift of appreciation.
What about the Madoff scandal? The vast majority of Madoff’s victims were Jews. He’s universally despised.
As far as Jews “sticking together to vote for Sanders,” he’’d likely get around 70 - 75% in the general not because he’s Jewish, but because he’s a Dem. Same as every election.
If you’re suggesting that Republican Jews would vote for Bernie, you’re deluded.

You’re right - most of Madoff’s clients were Jews or Jewish related charties/foundations. My point was, even though many of his clients had doubts about him, they stuck with him because he was “one of us”. I’m not really sure there are many “republican jews”. I’ve certainly never met one.
Bernie is not so much a Jew as a commie.
Reagan received 40% of the Jewish vote, so they do exist. There are many dozens of Jewish Freepers too.
