In 2014, the Northeast Utilities Company in Connecticut — now known as Eversource Energy — allegedly laid off around 200 of its American tech workers and replaced them with low-wage foreigners admitted on H-1B guest worker visas.

Now a photo has emerged depicted the workers’ final, silent patriotic protest — silent because the workers reportedly were forced to sign non-disparagement agreements to shield their employer.

H1B’s: cheap labor, no criminal record and fearful or being repatriated. A three-for.

How big are the severance packages that the employers offering to get these agreements signed?

One of the groups like Numbers USA etc. needs to match the package for the displaced employees and let the employees tell their stories about the treasonous employers.

Non-disparagement agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and non-litigation agreements are common practice with large corporations.

Their severance package is usually quite generous.

But if you don't sign, no package and no job reference.

If you refuse to train your replacement, termination for insubordination, and no unemployment benefits.

This has been going on for at least a decade, and it explains why there has been so little publicity about the H-1B job carnage.

It’s not just a raw monetary issue.

If you break your signed agreements with the corporation, your job reference disappears, or, rather, all inquiries will come back “Not Eligible For Rehire” when a future employer contacts your old employer.

That can possibly be the career-kiss-of-death for whatever profession you have been in.

H1Bs are not supposed to displace American workers. Can’t these companies be sued/prosecuted?

Probably - but how many science and tech people want to risk the huge investment they have made in job experience and skills by throwing the dice in a courtroom?

It can take years to collect money, and there is always a risk that you will lose.

That's their whole point - to bring in cheap labor(cheap to the company, that is) and displace American workers.
