To Understand Trump, You Must Read "Art of the Deal"
1987 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/24/2016 11:16:47 AM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

I've been reading "Art of the Deal" and it gives a lot of insight into how Trump operates. His bravado and bragging are strategic, they get results.

I highly recommend that people read it, whether they like Trump or not.

Here is a PowerPoint-type presentation that summarizes the book:

Could an enemy read his book and develop a successful strategy against him like Patton did to Rommel after reading his armor strategy book?

If they were smart enough and tough enough.

That might be you!

It definitely is a great book.

A few weeks back I posted on FR my review of the book and compared his Art of the Deal insights with his campaign artistry.

Art of the Deal to Art of the Campaign

Rommel didn’t write an armor strategy book. He wrote a light infantry tactics book, “Infantry Attacks”. It’s very good, highly recommended. The basic ideas about surprise, deception, flank attacks, and opportunistic leadership is very basic, even ancient stuff, which you will find in Sun Tzu. But Rommel presents it very well.

To expand, the way to counter Rommel’s approach is not a counter as such, but to copy him. It’s fundamental good sense.

I’ve never understood the failure of so many people to understand that Trump’s brash public persona is a calculated one, and almost an exaggerated self-caricature.

He’s always going to have that touch of brash bravado; but I suspect strongly that if he is elected President, we will see something very different; a lot of people will be surprised.

I get a vibe that he’s a very competent individual and genuinely nice person.

I agree with your assessment. Especially where it pertains to the way he controls his mannerisms and facial expressions. It must drive the ruling class CRAZY to see this modern day Huey Long/Ross Perot/George Wallace just grab the microphone and cameras then just touch a nerve in the anger and frustration of the taxpayers. Not the “voters” but the “taxpayers”.

The parasite “voters” all vote for the democrat and will never take time to realize that the boot on their necks is attached to a democrat apparatchik.

Trump thinks many moves ahead, it is calculated, very smart guy and he wins where others give up.

Off-topic for this thread, but I couldn’t resist:

Your linkage of Rommel and Sun-tzu resonates with this, from “Knight’s Cross: A Life of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel” by David Fraser, 1995 (p.37):

“Young Rommel, to a degree which must often have infuriated slower or more senior heads, made up his own mind, saw and decided in an instant, and then grabbed the nearest troops (persuading or ignoring their own local commander) and moved like lightning to inflict maximum damage on the enemy. His nose for an opponent’s vulnerability was like the scenting of a thoroughbred hound, while his lethal rapacity in striking at that vulnerability became legendary, and so remained. His was indeed, as Sun-tzu described the quality of decision, like the swoop of a falcon.”

Yes. Many people just don’t get it. They would if they bothered to research Trump. In the early 1990s, Trump was asked to appear before Congress to make recommendations re the economy and other assorted topics.

"Infantry Attacks." It was required reading for all Marine Corps Lieutenants in the 1980s. I don't know if it is still required reading. It was about Rommel's experiences in WWI. If I remember correctly, he spent most of his fighting in the Alps and away from the static trenches (that WWI was known for).

It is a really good book, that showed how initiative, doing the unexpected and really pushing your people could pay huge dividends.

There are actually two versions of the book. One version is the original book, the other version was printed in WWII for the allies to read. The WWII version edited out parts that showed our WWII friends in less than a favorable light.
