In the political scheme of things how important is Iowa? Their caucuzoiding (new word) is as arcane as electing a Pope.
"The caucuses are an event where voters from all of 1,774 Iowa voting precincts meet to elect delegates to the county conventions. From the county convention, of which there are exactly 99, delegates are chosen for the state party convention. Eventually, the state party convention elects delegates to attend the national party convention, where a Presidential nominee is selected. The process is similar for both Democrat and Republican candidates. The winner of the Iowa caucus receives the most delegates elected to the county convention, which then elects delegates for that candidate to the state convention, and eventually, to the national convention." I'm in no way dissing the good people of the Hawkeye State but get real, their methods of electing Presidential candidates are as byzantine as a government bureaucracy in post-Napoleonic France.
To achieve greatness in Iowa, aspiring Presidential candidates have to promote either religion (preferably Christian) or government subsidized ethanol. Both is better.
Ethanol is a codeword for burning our food and turning it into hooch so we can put it in our cars and destroy our engines. This from a state with 6 electoral votes.
On the strength of religion or hooch, Huckabee won Iowa in 2008, Santorum won in 2012...Both great guys. But after their triumph, they virtually disappeared into Political Witness Protection.
Huckabee stayed in the race a long time and drove Romney supporters nuts.
Both?
