Iowa Caucus Goers Wasting Good Cruz Votes on Santorum/Huck are Doing Conservatism a Serious Disfavor

just sayin...

What's the point of voting for some spoiler polling at 1-3% -both Santorum and the Huckster in the race for dubious reasons anyway, imho.

I got to assume such Republican base voters would prefer someone other than Trump be the nominee... and sure can't see what any real conservative wouldn't want to support Cruz as the most credible alternative. Why are people even considering Santorum or Huckabee at this point... nothing special about either of these retreads, really.

With Cruz and Trump polling neck-and-neck in Iowa, conservative GOP voters really ought to think about what an extra 5% could do for Ted Cruz if we ignore diversionary candidates who going nowhere -and are only splitting the right- you can bet Rove pushed Huckabee into this, at least. With Santorum it might just be ego, but what a waste of time and money anyway.

Add that +5% to Cruz's superior ground-game and influential endorsements in Iowa, and I'm feeling real good about his chances there. But c'mon Hawkeyes, don't be throwing any dead-enders a pity vote...
Ted Cruz needs your support -starting today- and please tell your friends.

Maybe they consider those two to be the “true christian conservatives”?

Hell that’s what FR considered them to be in previous elections too.

Makes no sense

Do you not understand how the caucus system works? People going into the caucus as Santorum supporters will come out of it as Cruz supporters.

Nothing wrong with supporting a candidate on the principles you hold, regardless of practical considerations. Nor should there be a problem supporting someone with whom you have personal connections. That’s the reality of politics.

In a place like Iowa, it is a message to the GOP establishment that Christian values remain close to many people’s hearts, however mistaken they may be.

Huckabee is working hard in Iowa. He’s looking to show there on Feb. 1st.

I’m a Santorum supporter. I have the quaint idea of voting for whom I think is the best candidate. It may or may not make a difference at the present, but I think that it helps provide guardrails to prevent our political vehicle from gradually sliding too far off the road in the future. It lets the “powers that be” know that there are still a lot of us whose votes can’t be gotten without also respecting our values.

One more thing: I often hear people complaining about the media choosing our candidates. Yet, before the first vote is even cast, several candidates have dropped out, and we are told not to vote for most of the others...before the first vote is even cast. Sure, candidates will eventually drop by the wayside, but how about at least letting some of the people vote first?

I know, I know. I’ve heard it all. If we don’t vote for this guy or that guy we’ll regret it. Well, a lot of folks followed that idea, and they still regret it. You may not like it, but I think that I’ll still vote for whom I think is best. Matter of principle.

If Santorum drops out, I’ll support Cruz. But, for now, I’m still in Santorum’s camp.

Better to aim for the stars and hit a stump than to aim for a stump and hit the ground.

Nobody in the GOP has placed lower than 3rd in Iowa and won. McCain as the worst at 13 percent, then GHW Bush at 19. Everyone else should get out now, and let the debates just be Trump, Cruz, and Rubio. (Carson is currently fourth at 7 percent, Jeb at 3.)

I honor you for sticking with your guy, but he hasn’t gotten over 2 percent of GOP voters in 6 months, in almost any poll... and he would get less in a national poll. At some point, you have to face reality and also look at those with a reasonable chance in heck.

Same can be said about Carson. Carson is going nowhere. Voting for him would be a waste.

I could understand that line of thinking if it were a general election and you knew the Democrat was going to win handily so you cast a vote simply to offset a liberal.

But here you are doing nothing but voting for a candidate with absolutely no shot to do anything anywhere. Rick's time has passed plus his attack on Cruz’ conservatism was so misplaced as to be ignored.

I'm a Cruz supporter, I say that loud and proud.....and I'm not soliciting for him here.

Primaries are the time to vote for the best candidate that aligns with your values certainly.......but if your main guy is constantly in the baby room then maybe it's time to look at who would be best choice at the adult table.

Just sayin’.........

“...Why are people even considering Santorum or Huckabee at this point...”

I think it’s due to their political beliefs and points of view. As much as I’d like to think that conservatism is catching fire (ever hopeful), we still have to consider that over half the country likes candidates that are anywhere from right-center to flaming-liberal. Even among the political-right, conservatives are likely in the minority. It would be hard to explain repeat elections for McCain, Boehner, McConnell, Graham, etc if conservatives were in the majority.

So, it is not all that difficult for me to see how there are folks out there voting for the squishes. Some are probably every bit as passionate for their squish as some are for Trump and Cruz.

I spent ten minutes with Gov. Huckabee backstage at his show in NY. Just him, my wife, and myself.

He did not need to kiss my ass, he was the star, he wasn’t running for anything. He seemed genuine, interested, and very nice. I know the guy is a politician and that’s his job. But he came across as a really sincere guy.

I can understand why people would vote for him.

I like Cruz and I think he could win nationally. But I don’t think anyone voting for any candidate is wasting a vote.
