Yup.
I shot a buck as he snapped his head to look at me.
The round went up his nose and out the top of his head, losing the antlers in the process.
When I went through the conservation check station on the way home, the antlers were tied around his neck.
The game warden looked at it and said, “I’ll be you want me to believe that those antlers go with that deer?”
He paused about 30 seconds while I panicked and then said, “just fooling, You’re OK.”

Do the hell-bucks chase the chupacabras, hellhounds and bigfoot or is it the other way round?

It’s that time of year for deer to shed their antlers. There was a huge blacktail buck in my yard last week and his rack was real strange looking - the right side was two short spikes like a child giving the “V” for victory sign and the left side looked like a three inch wide ladies hair clip with several little points in a row. He was rutting big time with a swollen neck and stained hind legs. Season closed.

Happened to some degree this year with two people I know who shot deer later in the season. My niece shot a buck & when they went to drag him out by one antler, that antler came off (the other side stayed on). Another friend shot a buck who had already lost one side (looked like he would have been a nice 8 pointer). When they went to drag the buck out by the one remaining antler, that one came off in hand. Not uncommon at all.

I shot an elk with about 24” spikes through the spine and he took off down the mountain using his front legs. My next .375 Ouch and Ouch shot hit him in the back of the head and the spikes blasted off.
