But, but...”That’s not who we are.”

Great - give free guns to the EBT folks who already have enough "off the books" weapons and one hell of an attitude against so many of us....

Much better to just stop hampering those who have guns and make it easier for them to carry them w/o being molested by "the law"....

Actually I have owned rental property with deadbeat tenants. It’s a legal nightmare.

My underlying point is that one major reason we are in the mess we are in is because our country is being run by lawyers for the benefit of lawyers. (Look at the percentage of Congress who are lawyers vs. any other profession.)

The current system provides legal aid for the impoverished so they can stay free in your rental units. It provides legal aid and/or incentives for losers whose retirement plan is to sue their way to wealth. It extracts money from the hardworking taxpayer and transfers large amounts to the deadbeats, but most of all it enriches the lawyers and in the process there is very little “justice”. It’s all about who can pay the “best” (most dishonest, most weaselly) lawyers and who can find loopholes or “precedents” that have nothing to do with the intent of the law or with what is truly fair.

It would be interesting to see what happened if we had a legal system where all lawyers were public servants making nominal salaries with no big payoffs based on settlement amounts. It would be interesting if legal representation were a “Constitutional right” in the same way that the liberals find other things in the Constitution that it does not guarantee. It would be interesting if legal representation were provided to EVERYONE for free. In short, I’d like to remove as much as possible the incentive to lie, cheat, and steal from the legal system which enriches lawyers at the expense of their victims (including their own clients).

At any rate, you have my heartfelt sympathy for having to deal with deadbeat tenants and the corrupt legal system. It’s stacked against the property owner. (I had tenants who did so much damage to my property that it exceeded what I could make on it over several years. I had tenants who would collect their welfare checks and then use it to drink/smoke/drug before paying rent, but if you asked the welfare office to arrange to pay rent to you before handing over the cash to the deadbeat because you were going to take action to evict since they were many months in arrears, they couldn’t possibly do that because it was “THEIR” money and their choice of how to spend it.)

I wish you the best. I’m adding landlords to my prayer list.
