King Corn turns up the heat on Ted Cruz in Iowa
Hot Air ^ | December 9, 2015 | Jazz Shaw

When this race first kicked off, one of the first things which attracted me to Ted Cruz (among others) was the fact that he was one of only two candidates who were willing to go into the heartland of the ethanol political machine and tell the people of Iowa some hard truths about the Renewable Fuel Standard. The guy has managed to stick to his principles and still found a way to surge in the polls there, currently holding a spot as the strongest challenger against Trump. (For the record, Trump showed up at the big fair in Iowa and pledged to support the RFS.)

King Corn has clearly noticed not only Cruz’s rise, but his “dangrous” talk about ending the RFS and kicking the legs out from under the government gravy train on ethanol. Now they’re striking back. (Des Moines Register)

Supporters of the Renewable Fuels Standard, seen as key to the future of Iowa’s corn-based ethanol production, are ramping up criticism of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, saying he’s the only presidential candidate from both parties who has refused to either tour a biofuels plant or meet with industry lobbyists....

For all the influence the ethanol lobby claims in Iowa, they still can’t pass an ethanol mandate in Iowa.

O.K., so Cruz refused so meet with ethanol lobbyists and Trump supports ethanol mandates. Kinda messes up the narrative of Trump not being on board with special interests.

If Cruz folds on this, he’s finished.

Ethanol mixed with gasoline tastes bad.

This year I did find gasoline in Iowa without ethanol included. Much harder to find around me.

Trump donated to Charlie Rangel, Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid. He is the Emperor of Special Interest.

If it’s like Wisconsin, it’s anywhere up to 60 cents more $$.

But it’s all I use in small engines.

No, at the time he was a businessman who knew how corrupt our government is and did what was necessary to protect his business interests.

Now, he doesn’t care about those and does not care whom he offends.

Sorry if that is too hard of a set of concepts for the TDS people to get.

Incidentally, Cruz is playing out of a similar playbook.

Hence, Go Cruz, Go Trump.

Nope, he walked into the lions den and told them unequivocally that he would not support ethanol subsidies and was well recieved as a result.

Ted Cruz Woos Iowa Ag Summit With Principled Anti-Ethanol Subsidy Stance

He's done the same with pretty much every heavily subsidized industry out there.

Right. Whatever you say. Buying politicians is a good thing. I am with the program now. Please do not bully me anymore because my intellect is not your equal.

No, but on occasion it is a necessary thing when living in a facist state.

But won’t respond to you anymore. Didn’t realize my attempt at debate came off as bullying. Sorry. /sincere

Watch your back, Ted. He's out there when you least expect him.

Cruz has integrity and principles. Special interests don’t like politicians who won’t compromise, lie a little, or tickle their ears with what they want to hear.

I pray Cruz stands strong.

We have nationwide ethanol subsidies only because Iowas caucuses first. Taking this stand is both courageous and admirable.
