His Simple Flat Tax Postcard lumps all income onto one line, rendering it virtually impossible to verify. Apparently wages, interest, dividends, capital gains, rents, pensions, social security benefits, etc. are all one in his mind.

So now we get to see a glimpse inside this author's mind. He is so indoctrinated into the current, oppressive, Big-Brotherish system that he can't even fathom a world where the government doesn't track every move you make and catalog it. Why should we treat those categories of income differently? Income is income.

However, I would like to abolish the taxation of income simply because it necessarily leads to tracking of people's lives by the government. How do you verify that someone is telling the truth about their reported income? You have to have the employers report it, the banks report it, the stock brokers report it, etc. At the very least, we could have each individual state tax income (and do the tracking), then give a percentage to the fed. At least then, there would be no centralized Big Brother behemoth tracking everyone, no double-income taxation (fed and state), and states would have an incentive to keep their income taxes reasonable, or lose residents (or they could tax at a high rate on purpose to keep the riff-raff out).

Candidates have near-term goals and long-range goals.

I don't think anybody's going to be disappointed because the next president doesn't abolish the IRS.

On second thought, some people probably will be, because they don't realize that major changes like that don't (and shouldn't) happen overnight.

Anyway, nobody should fault a candidate for raising awareness and getting a dialogue started that won't bear fruit for some time to come.

Today that code is today is a 73,954 page, 25 - volume service called CCH Standard Federal Tax Reporter.

I doubt we need a 12.9 billion dollar IRS agency if the tax code was less than 20 pages. And no we don’t need an agency that goes after political enemies and so corrupt can not be fixed with tweaks, it must be destroyed.

By the way Cruz likely has 50 points of IQ on you (so quit the childish attacks) and if he thinks he can abolish and rebuild an abomination I am all for it.

Weak attempt at setting up a false premise and arguing from said premise.

Most proposals concerning the IRS have as a follow, “abolish the IRS as we know it”. Of course, as long as there are taxes there will be tax collectors (or a system designed to ensure that taxes are collected).

The IRS, as we know it, has evolved into much more than a system to collect taxes. And THAT system (including the massive tax code/regulations) needs to be abolished or reformed beyond all recognition.
