Those who serve their country should be remembered not just on Veterans and Remembrance Day, but every day
Never is it more noticeable than it is on Veteranâs Day that talk is cheap. When President Barack Obama will lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington today, commemorating Veterans Day, 2015.
Thanks to the convenience of cyberspace, photos of the laying the wreath will be seen worldwide. But there are no pictures anywhere in cyberspace of the 307,000 veterans who died waiting for care that never came. Those felled by illness they brought back from the battlefield suffered in silence, breaking the hearts of all those who loved them. Others came back to a life of living on the streets and sleeping in farmersâ fields.
Couldn't be better.
Veterans Day is for the living. Memorial Day is for those who died in battle.
In my humble opinion. . . Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day. . .unfortunately the cause for celebration and remembrance has nothing to do with the sacrifices made for this country but rather has to do with in-store and on-line sizzling sales, a day off from work(government workers, banks, post office, etc.)and a day out of school. I tutor a 5th grader and I saw on his schedule he was going to be out of school and he said, “yeh for veterinarian day.”
All I have is an honorable Discharge document, form 256AF, that shows I served in the USAF, but I understand that there is another document that veterans get when they leave active duty. What is that document and how can I apply for one?
